upgrading Vista Home premium to 7 "RTM"

hello i have vista home premium installed on hp laptop.
i want to upgrade to "RTM" without doing a clean install.
is this possible? can i upgrade to ultimate or should i erase that file
that let u choose the OS and then upgrade to Home premium?

You should upgrade to whatever you purchase a key for and will activate.

The vast majority of consumers have no need for the features of Ultimate. You'd probably be looking at Home Premium or maybe Professional. You don't have to clean install but it's generally advised.

I personally would do a clean install, but you should be able to upgrade, it might take some time though. Just choose the version that you wish to install and you should be good to go. Remember that you cant upgrade from a 32bit version to a 64bit or vicey versy... Good Luck

There is no such thing as Windows 7 RTM, Microsoft has not reached that milestone yet.

And even if they have, it would be much better to wait for Microsoft to officially release the software through normal channels.

LoL .. I knew that question was coming ... Ill have to look that one up.. as far as rebuilding the iso goes, no, you dont have to. You can simply run the setup.exe from where ever you have it ... preferably you have extracted the contents from the original .iso image to a different drive/partition...otherwise, yes, you will need to rebuild/reburn the image to a DVD..

well :\
tried to run in now, mounted in magic disc and i got an error F:\sources\autorun.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.

what the...
i didn't do anything to the iso just went to vista installation (triple boot) and tried to load the setup as i did with 7264.
this is not the computer with the vista upgrade, on this one I'm doing clean install.

and i know there is no final rtm at the moment but its for my friend and he don't care.
i personally wait for MS official update.


update: forget about the error, its my fault.
I've tried to download an ISO then disabled it and then downloaded another one.
i was trying to install from the partially downloaded ISO.
now i ran the WZT and its installing. my bad.

hey.
well the upgrade gave me the OS choice menu
but i could only upgrade to the same version, home premium.

but after it checks that compatibility it says that i need to update and IDX10 (something something) IDE Controller
and Keyboard filter (say again?!)

and it tell me to close the window because it can't continue with upgrade.

any thoughts?
