Multiple BSOD of various errors with internet/videos/music

Recently, I have had MANY BSOD consecutively. Recently, I have had about 9 BSOD over about 5 days (although the report lists a break between my BSOD between 2/21 and 3/27 because I was on break for most of this). In the past I have gotten BSOD while playing games, but the recent ones have been while doing mundane tasks such as browsing the internet or watching YouTube videos.

I have used BlueScreenView to try to discover the cause of my problem, but every BSOD seems to have a different error and file associated with it. Many of them are blamed on ntoskrnl.exe, but have different error messages. Some are from different files.

I am running Windows 7 64 bit on a desktop I built about 15 months ago. Since then, I have gotten many error messages, but more recently. I have 8 GB of RAM, GEFORCE GTX 470, AMB Phenom II Black multicore processor, and Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H Motherboard. I assembled the desktop components and installed all software new onto the computer.

Things I have tried recently: resetting the RAM in different slots, running antivirus (I have AVG free, malwarebytes, and spybot), cleaning the computer fans, uninstalling/DriverSweeping the video card drivers and reinstalling, disabling the motherboard sound card through BIOS so the external sound card I have installed does not interfere, running cmd /chkdsk with fix to try to correct any errors found.

Any help would be appreciated. I have been dealing with BSOD a lot frequently, although it has usually only been about 1 per week in the past. These are extremely frequent recently with multiple per day and it is interfering with my work. Attached are the files requested. I will check this thread multiple times per day so please let me know if you have any other questions or comments!

Thank you!

Two main issues. AVG (blamed in about 6) and a memory exception. Please remove and replace AVG with MSE, and perform these two tests.

I note you have AVG.
AVG can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S .
Please remove and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST

Download tools and utilities | AVG Worldwide[/B]

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

These crashes were caused by memory corruption/exception (cx05) probably a driver.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have raid update its Driver.

Memtest.
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

Driver verifier

Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I am uninstalling AVG now, I have not heard of that as a problem before but that is an easy fix for me to try.

In the past, I used memtest to test my 2 4GB sticks of RAM and had mixed results with it. I let it run several times overnight and found an error with both sticks of RAM in that I could not recreate with either stick in alone. I tested every RAM slot with the individual sticks before resetting both RAM sticks into slots 1+3 out of the 4 on my motherboard.

I just had another BSOD with the same error as before (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED 0x0000001e caused by ntoskrnl.exe). Again, this was while listening to music on YouTube. I took my sound card out to see if that would make a difference also.

Will keep you posted on the updates. Any other suggestions please let me know.

Also, what does it mean if it says I have a "problem starting \3\DLCQtime.dll. The specified module could not be found."? I have gotten this error a few times after restarting. Could this be related to removing my sound card recently or is it something different?

See Solved Error Message - Vista Forums for your error. That thread has a solution. You could try the free version (do not start the trial) of malwarebytes to scan for the problem, as well.

For some reason, I am not getting the crash within the past 3 days with these settings. Is there any danger in keeping these settings on for a few more days to wait for the inevitable crash?

No danger is caused by Verifier. This is one of the reasons it is said to be an iffy proposition. Sometimes, it causes a lot of crashes and makes it annoying for the person running it, and other times it does not cause crashes making it difficult for us to narrow down the cause. It could be some of the changes made before or while running Verifier provided more stability to the system. Time will tell.

Here is the first blue screen I have gotten with since turning on Verifier. I am not sure if this is completely coincidental or if it is related, but it occurred about an hour after reinstalling the drivers for my Dell Printer which I had uninstalled during the previous set of blue screens. I do not want to mislead you though, because I am not sure that this is related--it could have been a coincidence.

Let me know what you think.

Thank you!!

The above crash occurred with Verifier enabled, which is good. Unfortunately, it blames a system file. When Verifier enabled crashes blame system files, it means either Windows has corrupted files or hardware is causing the crashes. The bugcheck itself has a possible cause of hardware, as well, leading to a conclusion that it is likely hardware causing the crashes.

Just ran the sfc command with no errors found. Here is what I did for reference:

Start, typed "cmd", right click-->run as administrator, typed sfc /scannow, verification complete with the message "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations".

I ran this twice to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke.

I have not run the temperature stress tests yet, although I have a program called HWMonitor which I used in the past which I could use for this if that is fine.

Let me know what you think about the scan results.

Scan results look good.

With HWMonitor, just make sure your temperatures behave as you would expect them to. They should get higher under stress and be above room temperature at idle. If behavior seems consistent with logic, then that would be a fine method for monitoring temperatures. Let us know the results of the stress testing.

Thank you for the reply. Sorry I have not replied back with the results of the scans yet--I had a long stretch of time since then that I did not get BSOD and so I have slacked on following up with those.

Recently I had 3 more BSOD, 2 from ntoskrnl.exe and 1 from nvlddmkm.sys.

I will have to do those scans to see if I can find a more significant problem.

I was looking for replies around other places online to see other people's responses to these two BSOD errors. It sounds like I may have a fault driver somewhere, or as you guys said, possibly faulty hardware.

The nvlddmkm.sys error is particularly confusing to me because of the great number of times I have reinstalled the NVIDIA driver to make sure it is up to date and not corrupt. I found this website and was wondering if this was legitimate or if this was a scam: Nvlddmkm.sys BSOD Fix -- How to Finally Solve this Error!

Anyways, I wanted to keep you guys up to date with my progress, and if it would be helpful for me to post the new BSOD reports, I could do that as well. I think uninstalling AVGfree really helped, but now I am still getting these other 2 errors occasionally.

Stay away from automated driver fix/update tools. These often cause problems of their own because they only make an educated guess of which hardware is installed on a given system. Most of the time, those guesses are correct, but the ones that are not cause more driver conflicts than the software is worth. They will update to drivers that belong to devices similar to those installed on the system being updated.

Proceed with the steps I laid out for the hardware. If hardware checks out, we have methods for determining problematic drivers, as well. :)

try using IE9 for awhile instead of any other browsers, if u do use other browsers make sure they are set to run in administrator mode and if u still get bsod try switching their compatibility modes

I am posting about 2 DIFFERENT BSOD I have gotten recently.

Recently, I have been getting much different BSOD then I had ever gotten before. Over the past few days I have continued to get errors from nvlddmkm.sys (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) as well as getting two new ones.

1) RTKVHD64.sys (SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCPETION_NOT_HANDLED)
2) Rt64win7.sys (DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)

I have found online that these are related to something from Realtek, although I am not sure what these relate to exactly. Please let me know what I could look into for these 2 new errors. If needed, I can attach other files or material as needed.

Additional information:
*

I ran the memtest and let it run until it was on pass 7. There were no errors in that time. I have not done the CPU or GPU testing yet, although I do plan to.

I have deleted AVGFree and switched to Microsoft Security Essentials, and I have been using IE9 instead of Chrome.

The first appears to be a conflict with your onboard audio drivers and your graphics audio drivers. The second is your Ethernet driver. You should re-install the onboard audio and onboard LAN drivers from your motherboard support site. No need for the Realtek utility for the LAN. GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket AM3 - GA-890GPA-UD3H (rev. 2.1)
  • Driver
  • OS: Windows 7 64bit
  • Realtek LAN Driver
  • Realtek Function driver for Realtek Azalia audio chip (Including Microsoft UAA/HDMI Driver in English edition)
In device manager, the devices you want to uninstall are under Network adapters and Sound, video and game controllers. To fully re-install a driver, use the following steps.
  1. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Right Click My Computer/Computer
  4. Click Manage
  5. Click Device Manager from the list on the left
  6. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
  7. Right click the device
  8. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
  9. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
  10. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
  11. Install the latest driver for the device.

Alternatively:
  1. Login as an adminstrative user.
  2. First, download the latest driver. Then do the next steps.
  3. Click Start Menu
  4. Click Control Panel
  5. Click Hardware and Sound
  6. Click Device Manager (the last link under Devices and Printers)
  7. Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices
  8. Right click the device
  9. Click Uninstall (do not click OK in the dialog box that pops up after hitting Uninstall)
  10. Put a tick in Delete driver software for this device (if this option is available, otherwise just hit OK) and hit OK
  11. Restart your computer only if Windows asks you to.
  12. Install the latest driver for the device.

Thank you for the tips. I reinstalled both those drivers as directed. I am confused why, under my Sound, video and game controllers tab in Device Manager, there are 4 listings for something called NVIDIA High Definition Audio. Is this a problem? I am not sure why I have any, let alone 4 listings that appear identical.

Edit:

The LAN driver reinstalled fine, I am having some issues with the sound driver.

I set windows 7 to never update drivers using Windows Update, uninstalled the sound driver (Realtek High Definition Audio--although I have 4 NVIDIA High Definition Audio listings for some reason as well listed there as stated above), installed the new one from the website provided in the previous post, and then restarted my computer.

On restart, the sound was not working and Windows 7 automatically updated the driver anyway (despite my computer settings) so the sound came back on. I am not sure why the sound driver from the website was not "complete" and required an additional driver (called Realtek High Definition Audio) from Windows Update to allow the sound on my computer to work. If Windows Update installed the correct driver, what was the sound driver I installed listed in the previous update?

That is normal. Those are part of your display card audio devices. Let us know how the steps go with the Realtek devices.

I am going to reopen this thread after having very infrequent BSOD for several months, I am now getting 1+ each day now. Unfortunately, almost every single one seems to be attributed to a different file or driver. For additional information, I am including an updated zip file with the information about my problems as requested. Please let me know what issues might be now contributing, because many of these errors look different than the last time I had frequent BSOD.

Additionally, most of these BSOD happen while browsing the web, watching youtube videos, or other regular tasks. My video card seems to be running at 42C idle and my processor at 25C idle. I have had some recent infections which have been cleared (I hope) by using multiple scans including malwarebytes, spybot, hitmanpro, and microsoft security essentials. These programs no longer find any additional problems and my computer is no longer symptomatic as it was before.
