im looking into the ivybridge 3700k. i thought it might be a good step up from a 2600k, but am realy curious if its supposed to be any better than the 2600k. allot of people are saying its not that different, others say that it is going to be much more powerful. despite this i have yet to see a full spec comparison to the 2600k, or a benchmark from reviewers who have gotten an early taste. if anyone can clarify for me if its worth waiting for and spending the extra money id appreciate it.

most people say its really baout bragging rights, but not one person stated its overclocking abilities.
so that really is the question, which is going to overclock better? on paper it would be the 2700k, but which is it in reality?

I believe that the CPUs are still covered by NDAs (non disclsure agreements).

In other words, those who know, can't say. Those who say, can't know.

You are confusing readers.

The title of your thread is 2600k or 2700k.

Then in the first sentence you mention Ivy Bridge.

The 2600k and 2700k are not Ivy Bridge.

Maybe you should clarify what you mean?

I think I'd seen that one. I don't find any mention as to the source of the 3770k. (Engineering silicon?) Anandtech does remark that the preview is not supported by Intel.

The article would have been slightly better if the 3770k was compared to the 2700k rather than the 2600k. The 2700k has the same clock as the 3770k (3.5 GHz), while the 2600k is a bit lower (3.4 GHz).

I'd be a little reluctant to base a purchase on thsi "preview".

which i guess brings me to my other question than, how different are the 2600ks and the 2700ks? this time i really do me 2700k! lol. some people say bragging rights is the only dif, but no one talks about the OCability or physically which one is better, its a 5 dollar difference for an extra GH... somthings not right about their statment

thank you.
i have been reading the difference between 1155 and 1366 and 2011, is 1155 really getting that outdated? doesnt seem like it to me, but what do i know. if so, id happily look into a 3820 or somthing
just did some research, im not getting off easy on this one...

2600k still looks like my best option.

i looked at other cpus, mainly the 2011 sockets, and benchmarks, and reviews are saying its more for memory intensive applications and will not help much in gaming... although i am a 3d developer and it is important to have good caching time, i have a render farm to do that for me.

so now onto mobos, if i do go with 2600k... is there a better mobo than this...

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

i like the board... i REALLY like the price. im not fond of a restriction to 32gb of ram, no pcie3, but i do like the matte black instead of that dingy brownish black, i like the layout, and the flatter FSB sink... ill keep looking for boards, if anyone can think of a board that might have more of what im looking for but around the same price, id apreciate it...
and yes i know im kindof straying of topic, it raised more questions lol

imm not to attatched to it, so tell me what you think, its also similar to what im looking for

i worrie bout the lack of heat sinks and size of heat sinks though on this one, but that might just be me a little paranoid i guess

Read the reviews on the EVGA or any board you consider. Read the 1 and 2 egg reviews closely. With this board they are 24% who probably RMA'd it. That is not good odds. There are boards with better features too. reliable Z68 boards are very difficult to find. I know, I just bought one. I had a very difficult time with which one. Here is a good link sorted by the 'best rating'. But read the reviews and look at the user ratings. Some are rated better than others, but the reviews say different. the Z77 boards are rumored to come out tomorrow.

And yet eVGA has a reputation for having support that's better than most in the business. You might notice that they appear to monitor postings on their products at Newegg.

That's not to sing the praises of eVGA. I suggest doing business with a seller with a tolerable return policy. (I like Newegg, but they may not pay return shipping. They did, though, for the Cougar Point replacement boards.)

i was amazed asrock extreme 3 had a better score than the extreme 4 or extreme 6...
i was looking at some assus boards, 4 stars, only 10pct ISH (rounding UP) 1 and 2 pct and about 60-70pc 4 and 5 star reviews. i just dont care for the color, despite how superficial that is.

yes, color is a factor, which greatly limmits my options for a good board, i want black... plain and simple, i do not like the red mix if possible, limmited even more... if there has to be a secondary color i would wat green or silver, maybe gold but thats pushing it a little.

im alright with thes e blue and dark brown boards, kinda... i dont like the nastyness of the brown, which is one reason why i like Gigabyte, for their dark colored boards

ok, so ive narrowed it down to several options...

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP-UD3P LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.com - EVGA Z68 SLI 130-SB-E685-KR LGA 1155 Intel Z68 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Intel Motherboard

this next one is a little out of my budget but i could wait a little longer to get it if its worth it.

Newegg.com - ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS

dont really like the blue, but with green LEDs it will be hard to tell the difference i guess

The P8Z68 is an excellent board, far better EUFI to work with. ASUS is the leader with these new BIOS's and is on the 8th generation of their UEFI now. ASUS has separate engineering teams for each board according to the chipset which leaves Gigabyte, ASRock, MSI and the rest fighting for second place.

Not an ASUS fanboy, just giving some factual information there.

Now, if you can wait a short time you might want to look at the Z77 Maximus V Gene board. Cant say to much about it right now but you can read a little on it below.

thank you very much for the information, i like the board allot, im not a fan of micro atx due to the overlapping pciex1 and pciex16s, but i will keep it in mind, cinsiddering i am trying to shy away from M.ATX boards, is there a specific asus board close to 170usd by them that is still prey good?

also not to leave gigabyte behind, would it be better than the p8z68?

im seeing so much information leaning toward the asus, and so much information stating that gigabyte would be the better choice, im just not a fan of the blue on the asus, and im not a fan of not having any pcie 3.0 on the gigabyte.

although if i understand correctly, pcie 3.0 is "far from perfected and is not a huge step up." is this correct?
