How do I remove Google Update Service (gudate, gudatem) from services?

Hello, How do I remove two Google Update entries in Services (gudate, gudatem), both are disabled, I thought they were removed when I uninstalled the related software. This is a Windows 7, 64-bit notebook.

Do you also have Google+, Youtube accts or using Chrome browser?

I installed Google Earth a few months ago thinking it was a globe-type program, I have since switched to marble, but uninstalled it using Revo Uninstaller. I've also tried Chrome in Sandboxie, just to check it out.

I suspect that any Google software you may have uses those updater services.

What's important is that everything Google is turned off in msconfig>Startup and msconfig>Services - after Hiding All MS services. I keep all freeloaders out except my AV for best performance.

It can't really run then although you are being tracked by Google any time you are signed into one of their sites.

The most effective way to prevent data mining services from profiling you going forward is to Opt Out of Behavioral Advertising

I had the same problem as the thread starter. Window 7 64bit, removed the updater but the services and a bunch of junk still remained. In my case, I think I got it because I tried the Gmail Notifier which had a really old version of GoogleUpdate which didn't know how to uninstall.

Those 2 damn things lingered in my services list too. For some reason I couldn't find this topic and the "sc delete" anywhere from simple bing searches and anywhere, so instead I just manually deleted google program files, deleted the task scheduled items, and then ran a manual regedit search for "googleupdate" and "gupdate" and "gupdatem" and manually nuked every folder which contained ONLY obvious refererences of being connected to google update (ie referencing GoogleUpdate, the exe, etc). At some point it must have broke the services, since both services was giving me multiple errors whenever I tried to do them. The description for them failed (2) and then one that prevented me from even right clicking them for properties (error 1058). Restarted and then all was good!

Did you turn them off in msconfig>Startup and msconfig>Services? You need to do that first so they'll uninstall everything and not leave behind reg keys which were running at the time of uninstall.

Nope, didn't do that (I have done it a while ago but I don't think so). It doesn't matter now anyways since they are nowhere to be found in msconfig. There wasn't as many registry things to delete anyways. It maybe took like 20 minutes. Most of it was just the waiting time between searching for entries. I was just posting back what I did in case anybody else had tried manually removing stuff or things weren't working out. Manually going through the registry will clean it for sure.

Always be EXTRA careful when editing things in the registry! You can seriously mess up your pc or one of your programs if you delete the wrong thing.

Save this as a .bat file and run it.

I know that. But I also know that no other computers on my comp depend on it, I checked everything for only the super obvious "this is a google update key only" and I made system images before and after. I know what I'm getting myself into lol.
