Solved How do i make my 2nd PC connect to internet, please help

I just connected 2 of my pc's with ethernet. If i go into the tcp/ip 4 and change ip address to 192.168.1.1 and the other pc to 192 168.1.2 they can see eachother on the network but then i lose internet connection to my main pc.

How do I make the PC's see eachother and both be on the same network and both be able to share the same internet connection? I cant find any guides on this no matter how much ive looked.

Could you please give us some more specifications. For example router model, modem model as well as PC specs including operation systems. Also try to specify how everything is connected.

it is a Netgear GS605 ethernet switch. It is connect with cat5 cable. The modem is a RCA cable modem from my isp. Everything is hooked up correctly im pretty sure. My main computer has windows 7 64 ultimate, my 2nd computer has windows 7 professional.

I joined the main network on my 2nd computer. When i click its network icon i see both computers in it. But it wont connect to the internet. My main computer is connected to the internet.

You need a router between the modem and the machines, not a switch. A router will allow multiple machines to share your ISP seamlessly while also protecting the machines from anonymous attacks from the internet. You should really have one even if you've only got one machine.

But it's a switch, not a router. There's a router shown in the diagram at the bottom of that link that shows a typical setup with multiple machines connected to the internet:

Although it may appear that the switch is allowing multiple machines to connect to the internet, it's really the router that's providing that functionality. It's kind of a deceptive pic, as typical routers include a 4-port switch, meaning you could connect those three machines directly to the router, providing the same functionality, without purchasing the standalone switch. As a matter of fact, the router they pictured has a 4-port switch.

The router pictured would allow you to connect 4 machines to share the internet. Adding a switch to the mix, which would connect to one of the router's 4 ports would allow for even more machines; three machines and a switch connected to the router plus however many machines that switch will allow. All with internet access.
