BSOD trying to start Windows, gets to desktop then BSOD, then reboots

Hi guys, I encountered BSOD for the first time. Very annoying. Right now I have to run this on Safe Mode in order to access the internet. I also noticed I can't use Firefox right now, and instead am using iE. I couldn't run the the performance scan report either (time out?), but I did attach the dump file (.rar). But here's what I have... any direction is appreciated. When I get a chance, I'll at least back up my files to my external HD while in Safe Mode, which seems stable enough so far.

I did this actually a couple days ago without any resolution of the BSOD. I'll try it again and let you know the results?

So I attempted system restore a few times and it did not complete:
System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details:
An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x8000ffff)

So I know I said System Restore didnt work, but it apparently went through, and then updated itself and is now currently working with no BSOD. Not sure what was wrong, but I'll monitor it and consider the issue solved for now. Thank you so much for the assistance!

I have received the message that restore failed and then had Windows tell me it was successful after a reboot, so I know the confusion you face. It usually occurs when the registry is corrupted or if you are using a 3rd party defragmenting tool.

Well it happened again. Ill try the startup repair x3 and see what happens.

I seem to be able to run Windows normally after I do a System Restore, but this only lasts for one session. On the next boot up, I get the BSOD again after getting to the windows desktop. If I run in Safemode I have no crashes, and the only problem I notice is my audio is off and Firefox doesn't work (no FF in normal or safemode).

To get the installation media, use steps 1-3 of http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 and download the Windows 7 Home Premium SP1-U ISO x64 version for your language.

I am having dificulty doing this. I can't seem to run the Windows 7 USB Download installer in Safe Mode, and I can't keep normal mode up long enough to even start running it. I have the ISO you told me to download on the desktop, so now I'm a little stuck.

What about doing the system restore to allow normal mode to run again? Is that method no longer working?

You won't be able to do a repair install in safe mode, so if you cannot get normal mode working, you will have to backup your important data and do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 or backup the important data and use the SONY factory image to restore (press ALT + F10 at startup on the VAIO POST screen).

7ystem restore isn't allowing me to hold up in Normal Mode anymore. I was thinking that I could download the ISO and the windows 7 USB Download Tool on another laptop and then hook it up to mine? Will that work?

If you are able to get the repair install to run on your system, that will work. Given the crashes, I cannot guarantee you will get far in the repair...

At any rate, I would still recommend backing up your important data before doing any steps.

I was able to get the system to hold up, and made the USB ISO... but when I was installing, I was notified that the Service Pack 1 was not installed . So I tried installing it through the automatic updates, but for some reason it doesn't seem to be downloading. Jeeze. Is there a way around this?
