On my Dell optiplex 780, I was getting so many errors I decided to reinstall Win 7.:( I guess this was a big mistake since since now I get the message that the one version I was going to install was a version older than the one I was replacing(bad one).:roflmao: then it told me I could not do this. So I have no windows Can't load Front Page,or any of the programs I want and/or need. If you could see your was clear please tell me how to do this or is Win 8 the answer.

Where did u get the copy of Windows 7? Did it come with the computer?

Is there a system recovery utility?

You really should be able to load any version of windows over what you have. Unsure why the installer would care as long as you aren't trying to perform an upgrade.

I would think your best bet is to contact Dell Support and buy a recovery disc - assuming of course that you haven't already created a set.

I think not having windows installed will take care of that.

The only reason you'd get such a message or error is if you were trying to Upgrade (actually a Repair Install) from within Win7 which isn't the way a Reinstall is done. You need to boot the DVD.

Everything you need is here including the latest installer to burn to DVD then boot to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The Dell Reinstallation DVD you have may not be the latest and have SP1, so use the latest to save hours of updating.

I fully realise he doesn't have Windows installed, but if he leaves his e-mail address open to all and sundry he leaves himself wide open to spam, which he'll no doubt find if and when he gets his system up and running again.

As for the sarcastic comment, I don't think it was called for and I certainly didn't appreciate it.

It wasn`t a sarcastic remark. If it was I would have used the appropriate smilie. Such as this one. :sarc:
My remark wasn`t a poke at you. No need to get upset over somethin so trivial.:zip:

What version came preinstalled with your Dell Optiplex 780? Windows 7 32 bit Basic? Home Premium? Pro? Ultimate?

Details of the disc that came with your machine? Is it a Recovery Disk? OEM Reinstall Disk?

If it is an OEM Reinstall Disk, what version is it? Basic? Home Premium? Pro? Ultimate?

And what is/was the current version on your machine that is giving errors?

Is your system still under warranty/extended warranty if any?

All these details are necessary for proper suggestions to get over your problem.
