First of all i would like to apologize if this topic is in wrong category, or it should not even be asked on this site. And second of all, please be patience :) i'm a noob looking for answers :o So whats all about? Well i'm meeting new terms here and i have no idea what they mean and what they do. And as anyone else i wanna be safe in this era of cyber-crime. So basically i know whats a anti-virus and a anti-spyware and that they can run together. Also i heard that 2 anti-virus don't do good but 2 anti-spyware do. So what i'm asking is, what is a anti-malware? Can a anti-malware, anti-virus, and anti-spyware run together? Could you suggest some good+free of those 3? Sorry for my bad English and being such a noob

Florin, you might take interest in this thread, though it may be quite a bit of reading: http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/72070-whats-best-anti-virus.html

It is there that they discuss all kinds of different antiviruses and coupled security software. I personally only use Microsoft Security Essentials, but I have used it along with Malwarebytes for added security in the past.

Basically, you could have your system completely locked down with lots of extra security, but in some cases it becomes a hassle because of how much your computer becomes protected and overly secured. If you prefer a speedy computer over security, generally you use less security software, but if it is the other way around, you will want beefier security software which may slow things down slightly. That link I've provided will have most everything you will need.

Hi, FlorinSabin.

Your English is just fine!

Unfortunately, the terms are indeed very confusing and even more so because some antivirus programs are referred to as anti-malware (i.e., Microsoft Security Essentials which is an antivirus software)!

Malware is the word used to describe "malicious software".

Examples of anti-malware software programs are Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) and SUPERAntispyware (SAS). My preferences is Malwarebytes, particularly since SAS was sold to Support.com.

It is there where i got confused :D but i'm gonna read it again couple of times slower and carefully.

Can i use MBAM with MSE and SAS? Or is this even an option?

To uninstall Norton, Run this tool provided by them: https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...10133834EN&product=home&version=1&pvid=f-home

Then install MSE again. Yes, MBAM can be used along side MSE

Is it Sas that is the overly powerful antispyware software? If it is, be very careful if you decide to use it, because I believe it could potentially find a good program and mark it as suspicious (Although many antiviruses often have the same problem, don't they?).

I do this often when I need to read another language, and having two translating services on the web helps tremendously. However, I think you speak english very well for having it as your second language. I understood perfectly all of what you were saying. :)

If this is helping you, it is fine. Sometimes moderators will ask you to go back on topic if you start speaking of non-helpful things, such as what you've done today. There is a "Chillout Room" for that sort of talk.

I appologize for mixing up the languages, but I know you got the idea. If you'll notice, both Google and Bing have slightly different translations. Sometimes using both can be helpful in understanding what was written. But only use them if the translators are actually helpful; I only posted it because I thought you might find it handy.

If you've any other questions, feel free to ask!

So, i downloaded Sandboxie, and i'm happy that Norton insight found that file secure and also trusty :) Just that i don't quite understand what this software is. Is it a anti-malware?

Yes, you can use MBAM and MSE together. That is an excellent combination.

MBAM and SAS are very similar programs. I would use one or the other.

There are many good combinations, unfortunately you'll never be able to find the 'perfect' one.

Good, is good enough for me. I'm not looking for 'perfect'.
So taking into consideration my system specifications Comodo and MSE should run along together without problem?

Personally, with Windows 7, I stopped using a third-party firewall with Windows Vista. I have MSE and the Windows 7 Firewall, WinPatrol and MBAM. (Then again, I'm fortunate in that none of my computers from Windows 95 to present have every been infected.)

Malware woundnt dare to even try to infect your computer:shock: However the rest of us are screwed.
Because of MSEs behavior blocker, and Comodos hipps, it is quite possible that there might be a conflict in the future. Plus a windows update may grenade everything anyways. I say pick only one A/V to go with Sandboxie and be done with it.;)

Hi,
I’m going to do a basic explanation of all the terms you need to know when it comes to computer security and then give my opinion on the best products. It will make it as simple as possible.

Anti-virus, Anti-malware and Anti-spyware programs all do similar things, protect your computer from threats that may steal personal information or render your computer unusable.

An anti-virus program protects your PC from computer viruses. Computer viruses are one of the original computer threats. They spread from PC to PC and more often than not just wreak havoc on your computer. The word virus is often used to describe other PC threats such as malware and spyware. Find out more about viruses here: Computer virus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An anti-malware program is designed to protect your PC from malware. Malware (short for Malicious software) is software designed to disrupt computer operation, gather sensitive information, or gain unauthorized access to computer systems. They are nasty pieces of work. Find out more here: Malware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An anti-spyware program is designed to protect your PC from spyware. Spyware is a form of malware that collect personal data. This data is often bank details and can be used to steal money form credit cards. It is secretly installed on a user’s PC without their knowledge. More info here: Spyware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are different opinions on the different products to use. However, there are some rules. No anti-virus, anti-malware or antispyware product is perfect. Infections can always slip through but some products are stronger than others. In regards to having more than one installed, there is a rule. You should only have one anti-virusproduct installed that has real time scanning. Real time scanning constantly scans your pc and prevents viruses getting on there in the first place. Multiple real time scanners can conflict with each other. A highly recommended anti-virus product with real time scanning is Microsoft security essentials. Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows. However, there are other free products such as Avast! Or AVG, all of which are good. Then you can have as many On-Demand scanners as you like. These scanners only run when you tell them to. A good free on demand malware scanner is Malwarebytes Anti Malware. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Download.com This is very powerful. In terms of anti-spyware, it possible to have a real time Anti-Virus and a real time anti spyware. They shouldn’t conflict. There are loads of anti-spyware programs available and all are pretty much as good as each other.

Other than that, there isn’t much else. It is important to have a firewall that prevents hackers from gaining access to your system. The built in windows one is good enough. Sandbox programs like Sandboxie can run suspicious programs in a virtual environment so any changes they try to make to your pc will only affect the virtual pc which is deleted when you close the program.

Sorry for the long length of this but I hope it helps
Stephen

Thank you Stephen. Length is not a problem since information is useful. :)

So, after i installed MSE, Comodo and Sandboxie my laptop started to lag even more. Beside that Comodo had some false positives which is kind of annoying and if you don't know what your dealing with you may take the wrong action. In exchange MSE prevented a Trojan infection :) and i can tell i'm very content of MSE.

(Then again, I'm fortunate in that none of my computers from Windows 95 to present have every been infected.)

This is my first pc, and win 7 its my first OS :) and until now none of av i had found my pc infected with any kind of viruses, malware or spyware. :D
