7 kills setup of XP

I have a Toshiba laptop - Satellite L755 - S5107. It came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit pre-installed.

It doesn't have XP mode, and anyway I want to run XP directly. As soon as I try to run the setup of XP (SP3), 7 gives a message that there is already a newer version of Windows installed, and it stops the setup from proceeding.

All my internet searches have given results for SATA drivers, but my desktop computer also has a SATA HDD, and XP installs easily on that one.

So is there any way to install XP on a separate partition? I already know how to set up dual boot with EasyBCD.

:)

There was one big C Drive earlier, apart from a recovery partition. I resized them, and this is how they stand now:

The first is a primary 1.46 recovery partition, this is not assigned a drive letter and is not visible.
The second is C Drive, 100 GBs, primary, containing 7.
The third is D Drive, 50 GBs, primary, blank at the moment, where I want to install XP.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth are roughly 150 GBs each, E, F, and G Drives, all logical, where I'll store data, and maybe install Ubuntu.

My problem is not with dual boot, I'll settle that, if it arises. Right now, the installation just doesn't start. Isn't there any way 7 can be told not to interfere with the XP installation?

..You boot from the CD. You don't install it from within Windows...FYI, its not Windows 7 that is interfering with the installation. It is Windows XP's installer on the CD that is.

My laptop came with Win 7 pre-installed. It has a sticker at the bottom that has the product key. Suppose I format everything, install XP first, and then use the key to install 7, will I have to activate the product as well? And if yes, how do I do it?

Second, is there any way to download 7 Home Premium from the Microsoft site itself? Because I didn't get any OS DVD, there were just five recovery DVDs.

Have you even noticed that both Gregrocker and Logicearth here above told you NOT to start XP installation from Seven desktop (which wont work), but instead boot your computer with XP CD to start installation?

This way you should be able to install XP on another partition, leaving Seven intact.

That's what I am finally going to do. Just needed a link to download 7 in case XP faces driver problems.

What you should do is install XP in a virtual Machine. No need to repartition the drive. No need to boot to one OS or the other. Run 7 as the native, Host, OS and XP as a VM at the same time.

I ran the ISO boot option in EasyBCD, it booted the XP ISO, but then I got a BSOD, the 0x0000007B one. I googled for it, it seems the problem is the SATA drivers! I saw a guide and changed the "RAID Auto/AHCI" to "RAID Auto/Compatibility" in BIOS, but still I got the same BSOD. It says:

0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

Then I got the SATA drivers from here

http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaS...eId=&dialogID=152066863&stateId=1 0 152064667

First I tried loading them from the USB drive, but they only load from a floppy disk, and even my desktop doesn't have that. So I slipstreamed them into the setup files using nlite, made an ISO, and booted from that (using EasyBCD) but I still get the BSOD. Will it be the same if I boot from the DVD? If so, then it'll be impossible to install XP. :(

I don't want to run it in VMWare, I want to run XP directly. Then it'll use less resources and I can play some games as well.

Edit 2: Looks like I've got the wrong drivers for the model I have. There's a different driver for all the different models?

How many times do we have to advise you to boot from CD, and how many times do you completely ignore the advice?

To boot from CD, I'd have to burn one first, and I don't want to waste a CD when I might face a BSOD, now that the ISO is facing this problem. But I'll do it, now that there's no other way out.

I found the correct drivers but even then I got a BSOD...

Good quality CD's are 5 for $2 at Walgreens on the wall rack near the camera dept.

Booted from the CD, the installation finished successfully. Then got the dual boot working as well. There's both XP and 7 installed now!

Any reason why the same setup was giving a BSOD when run from the ISO?

Thanks a lot everyone for your replies.
