Hey,

The little network icon on the taskbar shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle. Sites like facebook don't load. However, I have tried clearing my cache. This momentarily fixes the issue as it prompts the facebook login page just fine, but after I log-in, it doesn't let me go any further. It just keeps trying to load. While this is occurring, most other sites (not windows live) work. Yes, I have tried other browsers. Yes, I have tried using ethernet.

My friend and I live in a hostel. Her internet works fine. Mine, however, does not. Even though it is set-up the same, and is obviously connecting.

Can anyone please help? I really need to check my emails/facebook. :p

Have a look in network settings, I suspect it might say limited or no connectivity, that being the case it's the connection itself that's dodgy. Just because someone nearby connects ok, they are not using your computer, network adapter etc;

I'm not entirely clear on how you connect, or try to, does your friend use the same method ? also ask whomever runs the service in your location (admin of hostel or someone) to assign you a different IP address. It might just do the trick.

It sounds like the network stack or winsock is hosed. Save the file below then unzip and click on it, let the file run until your machine reboots. If you are still having problems please post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all. :)

Okay, so to answer cyclic: We are both set up to a PPPOE connection, as we have to in the hostel. BOTH our settings are the same. My laptop connects to the University internet fine, and it runs pages like facebook fine. So it's definitely this network. I have tried using the same ethernet plug as my friend, and it still has the same result.

And chev65:
I tried it, maybe I am doing something wrong, but it isn't working. :(

Thanks, guys

Oh, and I forgot to mention: Just connecting to the standard modem at my hostel (without the pppoe, which is done using the same modem) it still does the same thing, so it must be something to do with my laptop and modem compatibility or something. ALSO, sometimes I do not get the yellow triangle, and everything looks fine and normal, however preforms the same as it would with the triangle.

Please update your ethernet card drivers from the computer manufacturer or vendor website.

Is anyone else having the same problems as you are having with limited access?

Would it be a driver related problem? Because it seems to work fine at the university. O:

Upadating the driver may help.

Also open a cmd prompt by right clicking and choosing run as administrator and type:

netsh int ip reset reset.log press enter
netsh winsock reset catalog press enter
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log press enter
nbtstat -r press enter
nbtstat -RR press enter
ipconfig /flushdns press enter and restart pc

Save and unzip then Run the 6to4 file first then reboot the machine.

Save and unzip then Run the IPreset file second let it run till your machine reboots which will be automatic, this takes about ten seconds. This is much easier than typing in 10 different commands. ;)

After that open up Device Manager go to Network adaptors and disable the Microsoft WIFI miniport adaptor which is famous for creating connection problems. :)

Can you also disable the Bluetooth adaptor I see there unless you are actually using it for something?

After that please post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all, it's best to use the snipping tool for this rather than copy paste.

Thanks guys! I tried both of your suggestions, but still no luck. I haven't tried downloading a new driver, because I can't with the current internet.

However - This is a problem while connected with ethernet and wireless. So maybe it isn't a driver issue?

Anyway, it sounds really ridiculous, but I can't actually upload an image, and even copy/paste my ipconfig, because my internet somehow doesn't allow it. So I'd have to go down to the uni, but since it's the weekend, I have no intent of going there. My internet is really killing me like that!

Try downloading the driver from another computer and copy onto a USB stick or burn to cd and transfer to your computer and install the driver.

I tried running the 6to4 and I am getting an error message telling me devcon.exe "is valid but for a machine type other than the current machine"

then "this version of devcon.exe is not compatible with the version of windows check 32/64 blah blah"

I am running the 64 bit version and my machine is 64 bit

is this normal? do I just carry on or stop it?

TheCyberMan - Yes, I connect to the internet via a proxy at the uni.
+ I think I will download the drivers there on Monday. :)

chev65 - I disabled one called Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter. But I left the WAN Miniport PPPOE, as that is what I need to connect to the internet here.

At the hostel it sounds as though it is looking for the proxy server.

Please check in control panel>Internet options>Connections>Lan settings there is a checkmark in Use a proxy server for your Lan make a note of address or hostname and port number.

Is there a checkmark for bypass proxy server for local addresses and under advanced please make a note of any addresses in there and where they are.

Once done at the hostel remove the checkmark from Use a proxy server from your Lan and place a checkmark in automatically detect settings click ok.

Re-boot the computer and check for internet connectivity.

If you use firefox browser and it is set to use a proxy you will need to set it to no proxy but make a note of addresses and settings before doing so.

I'm sorry at how tedious this is!

Okay, so I went and checked out the LAN settings, but like I thought, it was set on "Automatically Detect Settings".

Note: It connects to the internet at my hostel, just not to facebook and windows live(sites like that). I have to clear the browser data, then I can check Facebook for about 2 pages, then it stops loading again.

Thanks again!
