Constant freezing with seemingly no reason

My computer has been freezing pretty consistently lately and I have no idea why. At first it would just be on videos, so I figured it was flash. I uninstalled, re-installed, same problem happened. Then I thought maybe it was Chrome. Uninstalled, re-installed, same problem. Now it is happening at random times, video or no video. I've disabled and uninstalled anti virus because I've heard sometimes than can cause problems, and that doesn't help either. I'm at a loss right now as to what to do..is there a test I can run, diagnostics, anything?

What will help us to help you would be for you to fluff out those system specs;.

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

Add the word laptop or desktop or netbook to the
“system manufacturer” block, for example,
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

you can add the amount of ram you have to those specs.

Install speccy,link in my sig, watch your temps with it. If they start to climb, let us know how far they climb before the freeze.

Supply following info:
HOW TO POST A SNAPSHOT OF DISK MANAGEMENT DISPLAY
Run disk management:
WIN | type DISKMGMT.MSC | ENTER
WIN=key with Microsoft logo on top.


Maximize the output of Disk Management:
ALT-Spacebar key combo | X key (selects Maximize) |
Drag the field separators (such as between Status and Capacity) to show entire field.


Make a snapshot:
WIN | type SNIPPING | ENTER | New
Drag the cursor around the area you want to snip.
File | Save as | select save location and name | Save


Post the snapshot:

Ram is cheap. I do recommend upgrading to 4 GB or more if the laptop allows such.

Also add info about your HDD or SDD to your specs please.

I know lack of ram isn't the problem as this has just popped up in the last few weeks and I've had the computer for over a year now.

while I looking at those files,
you should consider running defrag.exe (the microsoft defragmenter).

Does appear that you have a HDD so that answers one question for me (gleaned from disk managment display and experience).

Run CMD.EXE as administrator and enter following commands:
DEFRAG C:
EXIT

To run cmd as administrator:
WIN | type CMD.EXE | do NOT hit ENTER |
CTRL + SHIFT + ENTER keycombo | ALT + Y key combo

WIN=key with microsoft flag on top

Are you seeing any error messages?

Do you see any errors in Device Manager?

Do you have any spare parts to swap in to see if the problems then disappear?

If nothing else, run sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt to see if it finds any errors.

And it was going so well up to this point. Chill dude, I was just saying I hadn't had any problems with the 2 gigs I've had for a year now. I'm sure you know more than anyone here about computers.

No error message, it just freezes for a couple minutes, and then resumes as if nothing happened. It will do it again at random intervals. I've ran scannow a few times, never finds any problems though.

you have both Eset and Norton. I consider Eset to be the better of the two, but if you prefer norton then uninstall Eset. Two av programs are not better than one but rather cause problems, slow performance and even mouse hangs.

REMOVAL OF P2P PROGRAMS

There are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

As long as you are using any form of P2P networking to download files, you can anticipate malware infestations.

I strongly recommend that you uninstall:
µTorrent

Weird, never noticed Norton on there. I'm guessing it came with the computer as I never installed it myself. I prefer Eset as well so I will leave that and uninstall Norton. It's hard to tell if any of these steps are working as I can't reproduce the problem on demand. If these steps work:
