Repair with ASC?
I find that to be a contradiction in terms ;)
I would suggest using System Restore to go back to before you touched the system with ASC, and work from there.

First of all welcome to the Windows 7 Forums...

I have been a member a while but do not post often as you can see with my posting numbers :D ...

The easiest way that I can tell you about installing and uninstalling all programs (especially utilities because of the intense registry integration they require) and then reinstalling them is that on the initial installation if you encounter errors on install then I recommend the following... Which has always worked for me...

First, uninstall said program (or utility) ... REBOOT!
Second, run a GOOD registry utility (like Auslogics BoostSpeed 5.x) after the uninstall of .NET 4. What this accomplishes is twofold. It removes all the "dead" registry entries and allows for a better reinstall of said program or utility. REBOOT!
Third, try reinstalling the said program and or utility. REBOOT...

I have found that these steps have worked for me on more than one occasion...
Also, I am not stating that you have to purchase a all-in-one utility like BoostSpeed 5.x...but from my searching and using registry cleaners and other utilities like what is in and within Auslogics BoostSpeed 5.x, along with their extensive and fast responsive help via email, that is why I like it. To each his or her own... :)

Hope this helps...

Cheers!

Before spending time on a system restore... try my way first... ;)
You might have to do one in the long one, however, but sometimes a registry cleaning is all that you need to "unconfuse" Windows 7, ya know...

Just a thought...
Cheers!

Registry 'Cleaning' unless done manually is ALWAYS dangerous, and can lead to more problems than existed at the start.

The chances are that the slowdown is caused by .NET updates self-optimising (I have seen this take an hour or so)after the restart.

Well, I guess that it is of the user's choosing from what I have read manual cleaning for a novice is more dangerous than using a registry cleaner. This is why I did not recommend any free ones, only a subscribed one like BoostSpeed because it has great tech support behind it and comes highly recommended. It is like you say tomato... scenario. :D

The ONLY good Registry Cleaner is the MkI eyeball backed by copious knowledge and a decent search engine <g>
The commercial offerings can be used to ease the task of tracking potential errors - but not a sinlge one can be trusted not to delete critical entries.
I know of at least one commercial (pay to clean) 'Cleaner' which destroys the Software Protection Service given headroom.
