Not legally if I understand your intentions correctly.

An OEM license is good only for the original motherboard.

Laptops typically have OEM licenses.

A retail license is good for any motherboard, but ONLY ONE PC at a time.

Ignoring the licensing, the laptop that received the restoration might not operate properly. It might not even boot.

Acronis universal restore works for this.

If you have an OEM license, you can't restore from old laptop to new laptop. You will have activation problems.

If you have a retail license, you will be able to activate, but you may have other issues that are usually solvable.

Hi there
The Better backup products such as Acronis usually have a Universal Restore feature which allows you to take an image from one computer and restore it to another with different hardware (don't forget the small boot / system partition if it exixts and set it as the ACTIVE partition on restore).

You can also tell the restore to include any drivers it finds from user specified directories so if the new computer has a different MOBO with some of its own drivers just include that directory when doing the universal restore.

You'll probably have to run a Windows update in any case after restoring but it ususally always works.

On the very RARE times I've had a BSOD on boot simply do a "Windows repair" -- make sure also that the AHCI parameter in the BIOS is the same as the old machine too and other BIOS settings are OK.

You'll have to re-activate the new machine (not always !!! I've had a few cases where the machine didn't request re-activation and it was a totally new Mobo). MS won't have any problems when activating by phone.

Generally it's better to re-install W7 from start but this method saves you having to re-install all your applicatiuons etc again.

Cheers
jimbo

Make sure you turn off Windows media network sharing service in the services. To get to the service, type in services.msc in the run box (windows key + R on keyboard)

Turn that off and try to sysprep again.
