Random BSODS Win7: 9F, 8E, others

Just joined, looking for help with my BSOD problems. Here goes...

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 32bit
- the original installed OS on the system? No. It's a Compaq presario PC from walmart, came with Vista but had a coupon to update to Win7..I let the coupon expire (silly me) and last month my son put a copy of Win7 on it for me.
- an OEM or full retail version? Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 3 years
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 1 month

This PC has been giving me problems since a week after the update to Windows 7. It randomly reboots, sometimes with blue screen errors and sometimes without. It lasts at most 1 day before a crash. I've seen many different error codes, the latest being 0x9F. I've attached the logs and memory dump files. I can collect more crash logs if needed. Thanks for any help!

No dmps included in upload try this method.
We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.


If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Hi, thanks for the fast reply. I read somewhere I needed to enable Kernel memory dumps; I have switched that back to Small memory dumps. I then restarted and attempted to locate the Minidump folder you requested, but it's not there. Meanwhile, the system has restarted unexpectedly twice before I got this posted...no blue screen either time (just flashed black then COMPAQ logo appeared), I'm not sure what the error codes were. I'm starting to suspect it is a power source issue. I will keep an eye out for the Minidump folder and if it appears I will post back. Thanks again.

You can also upload your event viewer logs so we can take a look

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:


Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.

Perhaps I should mention also that 3 windows updates have failed to install themselves for at least the last couple weeks--possibly even since Windows 7 was first installed, about a month ago. Those updates are:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 SP1 x86 (KB2604115) ;
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 SP1 x86 (KB2656411) ;
Security Update for Windows 7 (KB2570947)

Working on event viewer. DMP was verifier enabled but pointed to an OS file which it probably is not.

Because of the failure in net framework you should run a system file check
