Solved BSOD playing Dota 2 error 0x0000007e and 0x1000007e

Recently, within the past couple of weeks, I have been getting the BSOD SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
error 0x1000007e

(I recently got the error 0x0000007e as well)

In one instance I got the BSOD for
PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES 0x00000076

but the BSOD I am having issues with is the first one.

This only occurs when I play games, mainly, Dota 2 on steam.


System Specs:
- Dell Inspiron N7010
- Windows 7 Home Premium (My Original OS)
- x64 (64-bit)
- Full Retail
- Hardware is 1 year and 4 months old, since I bought the laptop
- OS installation is also 1 year and 4 months old, haven't changed it at all since purchase.

Graphics drivers are up to date (as far as I know)
Using Nod32 Antivirus

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
Please attach the DMP files to your next post not to post one.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder. If empty (or non existent) please look in the following folders. C:\windows (the dmp should be called memory.dmp), and C:\windows\LiveKernelReports\Watchdog.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

I did include DMP

The DMP's are located inside the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder, within the zip file.

These crashes were related to stdriver64.sys stdriver.sys from NCH Software. I would remove it to test


I would also remove this driver Related to MarvinBus.sys Marvin/MarvinPro Bus Enumerator from Pinnacle Systems..

AFTER you have followed zigzag's advice it would be considered prudent to update to SP1..

Remove NCH Software

Alright, I completely deleted the NCH Software folder from my program files, and I also deleted the Pinnacle/MarvinBus Folder.

I will do a clean reboot, and let you know If I still get the BSOD. Thank you alot.

Alright, so the problem was not fixed. I had no problems last night, or at all today, until about an hour ago. I received the same BSOD stdriver64.sys

Even though that folder and all of its files were completely deleted.

I attached the most recent minidump. Please advise.

2005? I've only had my labtop for a year. Do you think it could be malware disguising itself as marvinbus?

Oh sorry, I only deleted the marvinbus64 and stdriver64 out of my program files, it was still lurking in my drivers folder.

I also found out that stdriver64.sys is from "Debut video capture software"

I just uninstalled that.

Any advice over the PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES?

Or does that correspond to the marvin bus driver?

If so, I deleted the marvinbus64.sys out of my drivers folder.

* Re Registry Cleaners...

IMO - there is no reliable way for a third party program to know whether any particular key is invalid, redundant or neither.
Some registry cleaners may not know for sure whether a key is still being used by Windows or what detrimental effects removing it may have.
This has led to examples of registry cleaners causing loss of functionality and/or system instability.


Should you decide to go ahead -
Make sure you have
1.a current System Restore point created.
2.a recent "Back up" of your computer- preferably to an external HD.


* Now we await any further DMP's from you...

As long as you use ccleaner you may not have dmp files for us to read. Ccleaner deletes them
