I don't like it.

It's going against nature. Gives me the creeps.

Ketchup is supposed to stick. If I want slide, I'll open a can of motor oil.

Leave it alone, fer krissakes. It's part of the ritual of eating hamburgers.

Don't you remember the immortal words:

Ketchup, Ketchup, in the bottle.
None will come, and then a lottle.

LOL! Thanks, ignatzatsonic. Yes indeed! I do remember those immortal words -- but I also remember how sore the palm of my hand would get when I had to keep smacking the bottle to get the ketchup out!

All kidding aside, I love the IDEA of this product, but the risk of it being a contaminate is one that seriously needs full investigation. It's pretty clear now that the plethora of these contaminates are greatly increasing the incidence of various forms of cancers and other illnesses.

What I like and found what makes it a bit easier to get ketchup out of a bottle is not putting in the frig! You can take a bottle of ketchup of course seeing preservatives as always and leave some brands out as long as the caps are on tight.

When you first go to use a bottle left out you have to remember to shake it up first before going to slap the bottle or ssssplatttttt... the water separation is seen! Once shaken up a bit the ketchup can simply be squeezed out without any bottle slapping needed.

Note this is with the plastic not glass bottles and usually 57oz or the larger 64oz. Restaurants like burger stops leave ketchup and mustard bottles on tables all the time without being in the fridge while open. Family or Privately run food stops not large chains like McDs or whatever would tend to see this the most. (going way back to the 1950s that is)

I figured it out before this, make sure top is secure, then keep bottle upside down, I do that with all shampoo bottles etc...it always works

I've never put the ketchup in the fridge. For those slow restaurant ketchup bottles, just slip a butter knife in the neck along one side. A Guy

In a year or two they'll probably find out the coating causes cancer in California.

I think it should be considered the default. Almost EVERYTHING is known to the state of California to cause cancer. Imagine all of the saved (rather, unused) resources if you didn't have to label seemingly 99% of the products sold in the U.S. with that extra bit of info. Not really environmentally friendly. And mostly useless to boot.

By "signs everywhere" are you referring to the labeling requirements in that doc? Or large, physical signs, viewable from a distance?

Saw Gray Davis signed the new language added, who was Gov. when it first was made law?

I searched for a list of the chemicals but could only find additions to an apparently already existing list. One of the apparent additions was nitrous oxide, a.k.a. "laughing gas".

Wow, moneymaker there. Reminds of the nationwide requirement they're trying to get through to mandate that ALL street signs in the U.S. be changed to be upper/lowercase for legibility (if they are not that way already). IOW, capitalized correctly. If you ask me, they are more legible, and from farther away, if they're in all caps (not shouting, mind you).

Umm, why don't you guys just use a spoon? Is it weird to use a spoon to remove a dollop of ketchup from the bottle when you need it? I don't see why, it's a food utensil. I mean, it can't be worse than my roommate who uses a straw.

Yeah, I don't borrow his ketchup.

You could always get the large bottle with the large spin off cap and jab a table spoon down in rather then buying a narrow necked bottle and slapping it. But then if you didn't want that much ketchup.. hhmmm...

I just saw a short blurb on the local news, that a number of food products from a variety of manufacturers have been found to contain a significant amount of HBCD (a flame retardant. The news bit was so brief, it was difficult to understand just how much to be alarmed about this, but it definitely doesn't sound good. If this only involved one food product, or just one manufacturer, but is confusing how it could be a widespread problem?

I have to agree with the statement made by the former CBS journalist Dan Rathers when interviewed lately about the media at one time being a public service orientated professional but now is all commercialized. What that would boil down to is when you don't have something to report on "invent something"!

As far as that or any other element that's why there's an EPA. I would tend to worry about the massive amounts of preservatives used in foods sold over time rather then finding low levels of other things found in the environment likely present for decades before emissions from manufacturers and other sources were starting to see checks put inplace.

Gee what makes that ketchup so sticky you have to slap a bottle to get any out? Any adhesives? "Yes our local .... brand ketchup factory is right next door to the super glue factory." :shock::roflmao:

If it has been in the environment for decades, I would imagine that it would be the environment of the manufacturers, not the environment in general. Even if it has been there that long, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is harmless, only that people don't die or get sick immediately after ingesting it. There is enough sickness in this nation, that it doesn't take much imagination to see a possible connection. While I agree that there are other concerns, which may or may not be of greater import, I would hate to think that this would be ignored or put on the back burner. If it is simply media hype, then so much the better, but I will not take that for granted.

It's never anything to be totally ignored. But the list of toxins produced in past decades prior to the introduction of the EPA was beyond the scope. Pollution by industry becoming known to be causing health problems is what prompted the agency's creation when new laws were passed in years past.

Contaminants like lead, mercury, asbestos, and other elements were far more worrysome and had to see higher priorities at first Long term exposure with any harmful substance at any level is never good. But this is also why there are hazmat teams called in to clean things up once anything harmful is found in higher concetrations like any roadways splils when a train derails or a tanker is involved in an accident.

But all of that has to do mostly with environment not bottling or packaging of foods. Seepage into fresh water sources however concerns everyone even food processing plants.

Gee if you get mad at the environment does that mean you will slap the ketchup bottle even harder? That will get those burgers and fries saturated quicker!
