I am an 80 yr old computer duffer and have been experiencing an increasing number of BSODs that just seem to occur randomly.
All my drivers I believe have been checked and updated, have run Memory diagnostics, used system restore and system reinstall but nothing seems to get to the root of the problem(s)

Am enclosing Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 folder & the PERFMON HTML file along with my system info as spelled out in the BSOD Posting instructions all in a BSOD.rar file.

Would appreciate any help.
Thanks dlddemon

Thanks zigzag3143 for your quick response http://www.sevenforums.com/member.php?u=12080.
Ran Full system scan using Malwarebytes results, the scan completed successfully. No malicious items were detected.
I tried to update the driver but could not find any update so saved a copy of the file and deleted USBNUMP.sys from windows/system32/drivers.

I then started to make a note to myself about what had been done and found that my keyboard would not function using Notepad, Wordpad or Outlook While going back and forth trying to type a message I got another BSOD error, DRIVER IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL.

I restarted the computer and tried once again to type a message but was unable to do so.
I then reinstalled the saved USBNUMP.sys driver and again restarted my computer.
I was then able to use the keyboard as usual.

So I am now back to where I started at the beginning of this exercise.

NOTE: while searching on the net for an updated driver I found that this driver had been used by IBM for their numerical keyboard, could this be why I experienced a keyboard malfunction?

Where do I go from here?

Good news bad news I guess. No malware, but that USB driver cant be needed. It is far older than the system you have. Might want to investigate where it came from and when

OK. I rolled back the USBNUMP.sys driver to Generic HID Keybaord now the keyboard is working fine and the USB driver for Lennova keyboard is no longer shown.
I am now ready to move on, what's next?

Hello zigzag 3143.
The BSODs are back. I am attaching New folder RAR of the minidumps for the past 3 days anything prior to that will be in my original post. Is there anything else I can provide?

The USB driver is still in the mix USBNUMP.sys. You also have a 2007 BIOS thats need updating.

I thought that by rolling back the driver that I would be deleting the driver but obviously not so. I have now deleted the USBNUMP.sys.

As for the BIOS, I have not been able to update it using the usual WinFlash method. I will try again and advise.

Hi, zigzag3143

Got another BSOD am enclosing the updated dmp file.rar.

I also tried again to update my bios using ... E380 R01-B1. Acer's link for bios update gave me R01-C0 but when I tried to use WinFlash, pop-up said "onboard bios not Award bios".
Have also searched several sites to help me and found biosmods.com with many tutorials but are too confusing and advanced for me to try. Acer of course want $90 before they will even look at it.
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

The latest crash was DirectX/graphics card related. DirectX comes installed with Windows, so this may indicate Windows corruption. It may also be that you have corrupted drivers or a graphics card hardware problem.

Follow the steps for Diagnosing basic problems with DirectX. To re-install your display card drivers as outlined in the DirectX link, use the following steps.

  1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Uninstall a program
  5. For NVIDIA:
    • Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
    • Restart your computer
    • Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
    • If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
    • If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed
  6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
  7. Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

Remember to try multiple versions of the graphics drivers, download them fresh, and install the freshly downloaded drivers.

Thanks for your response writhziden.

Have run SFC/SCANNOW.. windows resource protection did not find any irregularities. no errors found.

Ran DirectX diagnosis but found no problems or conflicts.

Went to Nvidia site and found an update that I did not have.
Then Uninstalled NVIDIA Graphics Driver and made sure there were no residuals left behind. and restarted.
Proceeded with a clean install of the new driver and again restarted.. and everything looks OK.

I will now go back to using the computer and see if there are any more BSODs.
Will post if I have any further problems.
Thanks again for your help.

Have not had a single BSOD since updating the Nvidia drivers.

Now do I still need to update my 2007 Bios as suggested earlier and if so can you give me some assistance in how to go about doing this?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

No need to update the BIOS if the system is now running stable. BIOS flashing is risky and not recommended unless you are having problems.

When you are confident the problem is solved, you may mark this thread solved. :)
