Recently, I got a TEAC LP R-500 Hi-Fi so I could play some vinyl records in my bedroom, and to record from vinyl to CD, so I could play it on my laptop.

After I recorded one song off the vinyl, I got in the laptop, but to find that: "This disc is empty." on Windows Media Player. This left me with a question:

Is the recording method of the Hi-Fi incompatible with the laptop, or is it something else?

Hi Spongebot,

What software are you using for the conversion?
Is this a USB-connected turntable, or are you recording analog > digital?

I have a similar setup with a Sony USB turntable that works great. It converts songs to MP3 and they sound fantastic. I did have a few issues getting it to work properly with Windows 7 sound mixers, so with the above information I may be able to help you.

I recorded the vinyl, straight to CD. Song played on the vinyl, while it recorded to the CD in the drive.

That could be the root of your issue. I wouldn't recommend doing it that way as there is probably a buffering issue going on. Depending on the software you use, you should be able to record to your PC via WAV files, where then you should be able to either convert them to MP3 or burn them to CD.

And, how am I supposed to do that?

Well, to better help you I'm still going to need more information. How is the turntable physically connected to your PC? Do you have any special software to aid in the copying process?

Nothing is connected to the PC. I record the vinyl to CD, take the CD out of the Hi-Fi drive, put it in the laptop, I get "The disc is empty problem" on WMP.

Oh! I see. Sorry for the confusion. Does the disc play OK in other CD players?

Unsuccessfully, I'm afraid. I tried the DVD Player, error symbol; I tried the Portable DVD Player, and even the PS2! Alas, it came up saying "Disc cannot be read"...

Now it does, I had to Finalize the CD, otherwise it wouldn't have worked. Thanks goes to the manual. (Seriously, why the bloody hell didn't I read that in the first place?)
