Hi all,
As the title says i occasionally get this problem. My computer qwill freeze for a few seconds followed by system lag which seems to get worse (freezing every few seconds/taking 2 seconds to recognise a click etc.). If i reset my computer it resolves the issue but i was hoping you guys may be able to give me more insight as to what the issue may be.

It nearly always happens when i am browsing in firefox. Have never had it happen to me during gaming etc. which is why i'm hesitant to believe it is to do with my GPU or it's drivers which are always kept up to date.

i have included pics of the cursor and what processes were running at the time of the freeze/lag

What security software do you have installed? Please list anything realtime that scans for spyware, malware, viruses, provides a firewall, etc.

Also, even though you are not getting a blue screen: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

Those will help us determine application/system hangs, as well. They include your Event Viewer logs.

Hi, thanks for your reply.
I currently run Microsoft security essentials and every so often i will run a spybot scan and immunisation but i did not install any of the real time protection features such as teatimer

The only other programme i use is CCleaner to ensure my registry is cleaned and to get rid of temp files etc.

The problem appears to lie in your Windows indexing service for making searches faster. You should reset the service:
  1. To start, run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html with Automatically fix file system errors checked. Your indexing service became corrupted for a reason, and that may be the reason. Schedule the disk check, restart your computer, and run the scan...
  2. After the disk check finishes:
    • Login to the system...
    • Click the Start Menu...
    • Type "Indexing Options" without quotes and hit Enter...
    • Click Advanced...
    • In the Index Settings tab, select Rebuild...
    • Select OK...
    • Restart your computer....

Ok it appears i may have spoken too soon i just got a 3 or so second system hang. Is there anything else it could have been from looking at my zipped folder

Also when i was indexing at first it paused itself for a couple minutes and didn't do anything and then when it decided to start doing something it said "Indexing speed is reduced due to user activity" - I wasn't doing anything or running any programmes so this seemed weird

I found this error/warning in the logs

Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications.

It appeared to be linked to this

C:\Windows\system32\nvinitx.dll

On another note I have disabled hardware acceleration on Flash to see if that might have been in the issue

That dll is for your NVIDIA software. You may want to re-install all NVIDIA software.

  1. Download the drivers you want for your display card(s)
  2. Click Start Menu
  3. Click Control Panel
  4. Click Uninstall a program
  5. For NVIDIA:
    • Uninstall the NVIDIA Graphics Driver (this should uninstall all NVIDIA software and drivers)
    • Restart your computer
    • Make sure NVIDIA 3D Vision Driver, NVIDIA 3D Vision Video Player, NVIDIA HD Audio Driver, and NVIDIA PhysX System Software are not still listed under Uninstall a program through Control Panel
    • If any remain of the above, uninstall one at a time
    • If asked to restart after uninstalling any of the above, do so, and continue uninstalling any remaining NVIDIA items until all are removed
  6. Restart your computer after uninstalling drivers for all display cards
  7. Install the driver you selected for the display cards once Windows starts

This appears to have resolved the situation for now. I did a completely clean install of nvidia drivers using driver sweeper just to make sure i got everything.
Thanks Writhziden

You're welcome.

How is the system behaving presently? Let us know in a few days whether the problem is solved and you may mark the thread solved at that time. :)
