Regarding 64 bit Operating Systems

Hi jshimmy
I have exactly the same problem with Win7x64, and I am sorry to say I can't find a solution for it. I tried everything out there, only one memory stick, disabled everything but keyboard and mouse, tried IDE and SATA drives, burnt ISO (downloaded at Microsoft) at slowest speed after checking hash code, screamed and bumped my head on the wall... long story.
I can run Win7x86 without any problem. I just wanted to be able to use more memory.
There is one thing I couldn't try and maybe you can. I think it might be a problem with Win7x64 boot.bin file. If you can create a Win7x64 ISO with Vista's boot.bin and try with that, it would prove my theory. Please check this site how to do it: UNAWAVE - Code 5 Error whilst booting Windows 7 DVD
I don't have Vista 64 to try. The boot.bin the refer there seems to be for 32bit version (I tried all that and got an error when trying to install)
Regarding your VISTA problems, I agree they look like drivers problems, let me know if the updated solved it.

Update: I got a hold of a Vista boot file and tried this procedure but it didn't work. It might be good for the Code 5 problem, but not in our case here.
Next thing is to try to install Vistax64 (to check if my system really works with x64, although it should and I have succesfully installed Ubuntu x64) and then upgrade to Win7x64

If that board doesn't support the 64bit Windows and virtualization nothing will! I'm running the 64bit 7 on an AM2 model board here as well as the Virtual PC and XP mode.

I also thought there could be something wrong with the 64bit support on my board but in the meantime I got a Vista x64 and installed it. It is running fine right now (just muuuuch slower). I am downloading the updates and service packs and intend to install Win7 x64 from there. I started the Win7x64 installation (and then it complained it wants SP1 and 2, I am installing everything just in case) and it worked, which is much more than I got so far
I will post updtes on the thread I started about that: http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...all-32-bit-cannot-install-64-bit-version.html
Newbie question: what is the virtualization you mentioned?
thanks for the input anyway

For the new XP mode run on the Virtual PC beta for 7 that replaces the older Virtual PC 2007 where you can even install fresh on a virtual hard drive with the 32bit Vista or 32bit 7 there. If you should happen to forget any live cd or installation disk in the dvd one thing to note when going to start up the VPC is that the disk will be what loads!

A live Linux cd will boot without rebooting the system but simply load up on the Virtual side! The home page for the V PC and XP Mode is found at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/default.aspx

Welcome aboard the Se7enforums! jshimmy33

The MS advice was to simply remove 2gb until Windows was on and running. .................

Hi there

Can you imagine the reaction if you bought a 6 cylinder car which gave worse performance than the smaller lower powered 4 cylinder version that you'd just switched from and the garage told you -- yes to improve performance for the moment just remove one of the spark plug leads and run on 5 cylinders.

Not sure why ADDING RAM on to a 64 bit system should actually cause a problem -- but I skipped the whole VISTA thing in any case.

Cheers
jimbo

Tks Night Hawk. That looks like an intrsting feature. But my problem was to ever install Win7x64. I found out it was my processor, of all things. I just posted it: http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...all-32-bit-cannot-install-64-bit-version.html
