SATA Mode IDE or AHCI when you have a SSD drive?

I bought a ASUS P8H61-M LX Mother board for core i3 processor and a ADATA S510 6GB/s 60GB SSD

currently i have maxtor 250GB Hard disk and BIOS SATA mode is set to IDE.

To get maximum performance should i install windows on SSD ?

which SATA mode should i use in BIOS settings?

Not unless the SSD is large enough to easily hold all of your data as well as Windows.

Everything but settting to AHCI in bios and Windows.

Those are two seperate operations. Easy in Windows.
Bios is usually easy if you read the motherboard manual first.
Where to locate the setting instead of getting the manual after searching. :devil:

You got the right sequence. The one and only registry hack for AHCI is simple if you follow BFK's tutorial.

You got the right sequence. The one and only registry hack for AHCI is simple if you follow BFK's tutorial.

Watch yourself. You just used used Paragon to copy Windows with IDE set.
Then tried to boot into it with AHCI set in bios.
Why not just change to AHCI now, before you install the SSD?

I guess either way is OK as long as you change it in Windows and the BIOS. But I always do it on the SSD because some HDDs do not like AHCI.

I am still a bit confused about when I change the Windows AHCI. Is it before I run Paragon so the changed registry is transferred to the SSD?

I did the transfer with Paragon first.

Second changed AHCI in Bios and changed boot order on a restart after Paragon Migrate. This reboot is when you are ready to switch over to the SSD.

Third after the bios reboot/changes when it loads Windows on the SSD I then changed Windows setting to AHCI.

thanks for the help, i did a clean new install by setting SATA mode to AHCI instead copying old system since i didn't have valuable data

this was my first time using a SSD and there is a big performance difference using SSD to run OS

SSDs do make a difference, don't they? A clean install is always the best way to go. But many don't like to spend the time. From the responses here, it seems it dosen't really matter when you change to AHCI mode, but personally, I like to do it before the Paragon transfer. I like to get the OS partition just the way I want it and then make the transfer. That way there is no chance to mess up a new install. Then I use Paragon Migrate and it has always worked perfect for me. But, in the end, I guess it is a matter of personal preference as long as it is done right whenever it is done. Don't go overboard tweeking the SSD. I make sure windows had turned off defragment on the SSD, disable hibernate, re check the alignment and not much more. And yes, I leave Superfetch on, leave the page file on the SSD.

One final question before I install the SSD tonight. == My last drive now is G. When I install the SSD, I assume it becomes H. When I change the boot order that will make it become C, is that correct?
