BSOD playing games randomly (every few hours)

Hello,

A few days ago I installed Windows Updates and installed a game called "Ace Online". After a couple hours of playing, my computer suddenly blue screened. I thought it might be a one time deal, but it has occurred about 3 times per day since then while playing the game. I did a system restore to the day before I updated, re-installed the game with automatic updates off thinking it might be a flawed update, but then it crashed again a few hours later. This game seems to run smoothly on my laptop, but my desktop is definitely better for gaming. Upon the computers restart, it says that it has recovered from a serious error. I get this message

Your provided nfo tells that your BIOS date is a pre 2009. Your hardware might be incompatible with the actual Windows version. I'd suggest you to run the Windows 7 Compatibility checker.

If some of the hardware parts are not compatible, we'll try to update your BIOS.

Thanks for the reply,

What exactly should I be checking to see what is compatible? I have used the system with all the hardware working for the last 3 years, and have not really updated since. I have checked the hardware on this site and it tells me that everything is compatible with Win 7 (unless I missed something)

Thanks,
Greg

Hello gregevan. Not to replace the excellent help of Frederik, but I have some advice to offer.

  1. Update your BIOS(as already stated) as it is a few revisions old. BIOS updates often address stability issues. ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P6T SE
  2. Update your ASUS Drivers, including AI Suite, they can be found in the above link.
  3. Overclocking? I believe so. This BugCheck code in conjunction with overclocking, can be a result of too low of VCore. If you are(which I am fairly certain you are) overclocking, please stop for now. We need to test stability before you revert back to an overclocked state. EDIT: yes, to confirm, you are overclocked. To a whopping 4ghz!
Thanks,

James

Hello again,

as me and James has mentioned, your BIOS needs an update. ASUS has provided some utilities, as I think you can use them inside Windows. It should be something like a DOS process running. But still we'll need to give the warning even though it seems easy-

   Warning
Cancelling a BIOS flash, or messing up with a configuration (if any) might break your machine. Be careful what you choose, and don't configure without having a little basic knowledge on the areas. Ask questions during the installation if you have any.

.. we just have to do it. :)

Best Regards,
Frederik.

I'll look into updating the BIOS when I get back to my computer and let you know when I did that.

Dont' forget about the rest. Before you do ANYTHING else, reset the BIOS to fail safe settings, if you don't you can brick your Motherboard during the flash if your PC crashes.

Once I get back, I will first reset my mobo to standard settings, then update the bios, then update the drivers, and finally come back and tell you when that is complete. Does that sound alright?

That is exactly the order in which to do it. Post back your results. If you are adamant about overclocking, I can help you with that as well. But first, we need you stable to correct any other issues.

Thanks,

James

Under the BIOS updates, there are BIOS utilities, one of them should do it from within Windows.
