Hey guys, it's me again, with just a quick question. I've put MSE on my computer, but I haven't uninstalled Norton and the reason is because I've got about a month's subscription left until it expires. I've just disabled the scanning, real time protection etc. so it's still on my computer. If I uninstall Norton, will it affect the subscription because it's being paid for? I'm tempted to uninstall Norton as it might still conflict with MSE, but I'm not sure. Another reason is because when I open up MSE it says I haven't run a scan on my PC for a while, so I think it's conflicting somewhat. Thanks!

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!!

Get rid of it, it will definitely cause issues when running with MSE simultaneously!

Here's the link to the infamous Norton Removal Tool from Norton's website:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/nor...t=home&pvid=f-home&version=1&lg=english&ct=us

Here on sevenforums we are always happy to oblige your request to remove an inferior product to allow a superior product like MSE to run on your system unimpeded.

OK, but what'll happen to the subscription? Will it just expire normally even though Norton's not on my computer anymore?

I guess it will.

If you're bothered enough by the idea that you're not getting your money's worth, you can always uninstall MSE for now, stick with Norton until it expires, and then get rid of it in favour of MSE afterwards.

It's one or the other mate. Having two of them on your system is not a good thing.

Well, actually, I think you first pay for it and then you use it, so I guess it doesn't matter. There is only a month left, so I guess I'll uninstall it. :D
I'll post back if I have any problems with removal. Somehow, Symantec doesn't want you to get rid of their products, do they? :/ At least the Norton removal tool should help :)

Their software's pretty tenacious on the system. Older versions could be described as worse than have viruses on your system because of the extreme performance hog it could be.

Fact that you've got to use a custom made removal tool from them says it all, really.

Well I uninstalled Norton from the control panel, then used the removal tool and CCleaner. I'm now running a scan with MSE and it's working fine. I know one thing now, I think I have more memory available! :D Norton was completely tame during the uninstall process! Thanks for your help.

Glad to know it went well for you! Others have not been as fortunate....

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi,

One other thing to check : did you purchase Norton on-line? If so, you will need to cancel any subscription renewals since they are automatic (Symantec will just bill your card automatically, its in the fine print, you will need to opt out of subscription).

If you didn't do it on-line, you have nothing to worry about.

Regards,
Golden

We bought it from a retail CD, but I'll ask my dad and he'll do something, since we're uninstalling Norton off of all of our computers. I'll tell him that we need to stop the automatic renewal before next month.
