Easy-to-run PC Games - Suggestions?

Hello!

I was looking at building my own PC with insane specs to run modern games, but I've managed to fix my four/five year old laptop with help from one of you awesome guys from this forum, and I'm in between jobs at the moment (very poor) so I've decided to just get a few old games to run on my laptop as I'm an upcoming console-PC convert.

I'm a big nerd when it comes to RPGs - I just love them. I played oblivion for around five years, Skyrim, Fallout 3, etc. Those are my favourite games that I played on console. Obviously, though, my current system specs aren't all that great, so I've decided to back-track to previous generations of games for my laptop. I just had a 'eureka' moment when I thought of Need for Speed: Underground 2 - that was an amazing game. I'll be getting that.

I was thinking of getting TES: Morrowind as I never had the pleasure of playing that game and surely I can run that.

All suggestions for old-school awesomeness is welcome, but RPGs would be preferable. :D

P.S. My system specs are below - Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo XI 2528, all default components.

Thank you.

You could try some of the f2p games on steam.I recomend team fotress 2 if your into fps. Also I recomend take a look at this dudes videos on youtube,he shows a lot of games that are low spec and will run on pretty much any low spec pc. Multiple videos and great stuff in it.Use to use his recommendations before I got the current pc i have XD use to have a Pentium 4 3.6GHz with intel graphics and 512mb ram lol. Anyways look at his videos :)

I'll check it out when I get home; I'm currently at work "wasting" time, and they have a block on Youtube off-site which I can't disable even though I'm the admin... or I would. :P

Besides the excellent suggestions from M1GU31, and since you're an old school RPG fanatic (so am I) may I recommend GOG.com ?

It's an old-school gamers paradise featuring a vast selection of the best games ever to have graced the PC during the 90s and early 00s...

They often have sales and special offers for the games on the site and what you buy you keep forever, DRM free, unlike Steam's persistant DRM that requires an internet connection to access your games.

(yes, i know about Steam's offline mode, but it's a PITA to get working at times)

There are also a few websites with a list of games that can run well on Netbooks (the ones with the god awful Atom processor)

Samsung Netbook Games List (N-Series) - Samsung Wiki

If a netbook can run it, so can your laptop!

Again, I'll check them out when I get home. I'm on a work placement in a school so they have a very strict block on anything which mentions games (thankfully not Seven Forums).

I love GOG! I got the original Fallout from there when they were giving it away!

Devastating news - my laptop was fixed for almost a week before breaking again. It definitely seems like a graphics issue. It was working fine, waiting for me to order NFSU2 (I ordered it yesterday) and it blue-screened on me again this morning. It blue-screens EVERY time on boot unless I boot into safe mode. :-(

Oh dear. Make a new thread in the Crashes and Debugging - Windows 7 Forums

and follow these posting instructions so that we can have a look at the problem for you.

I've 'fixed' my laptop again by reinstalling the OS. The problem seems to blue-screen every time I restart to configure updates so, although I appreciate it's a security flaw, I've disabled automatic updates so it'll at least run. The graphics card isn't even detected, so that's probably broken; I think that's the route of my problem. This is just a temporary workaround until I'm rich enough to buy a new computer. I'm still learning, but I now know enough about hardware to be disappointed unless I spend ~£700 on a new system. I just hope I can run NSFU2 without a graphics card, as it barely requires one anyway. :p

Oo CSS - why didn't I think of that? A good five years or go or so I spent the summer living with a friend and we played CSS alongside GunZ pretty much all day every day. I never picked up CSS when I got home but I'd already been playing GunZ for a number of years before that. I might pick that up again, too, played that for maybe 8-9 years in all. I love that game.

If anybody hasn't played GunZ: The Duel before, I highly recommend that. Low specs, free download via IJJI. It'll be very frustrating at first as pretty much the only people who still play it are pros, and the game is heavily reliant on beneficial 'glitches' known as K-Style/Monk-Style which the community has grown to love. Primarily PVP with a 'Quest' mode for team-based PVM which is better for XP. Obviously PVP is the most fun when you get good at it. :p
Animé/Third-Person/Sword/Firearm game. Awesome.

Most indie games will work, and most of the steam F2P games, If you want a game from the F2P section team fortress 2 and A.V.A (Alliance Of Valiant Arms.) AVA is a VERY WELL optimised game and even on my intel HD Graphics I get 30-60FPS.
