As Microsoft announced that it will be holding a press conference at Noon, PDT the Web was hit by information regarding the Office 2013 Customer Preview.Microsoft’s Office 2013 reaches its public Consumer Preview milestone today, available for end users to test on Windows 7 and Windows 8 PCs. Microsoft is calling its Office 2013 suite, Office 2013 signals a shift to document collaboration and anywhere any device access. Notably, Microsoft is introducing an on-demand subscription version of Office 2013 that can be streamed from any Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC, with the ability to sync settings and documents. With strong competition from Google Apps and Apple’s iCloud storage and iPad hardware, how does Microsoft plan to keep Office 2013 desktop software and its cloud offerings relevant in a multi device era.

Yes kodi pointed that out when I posted my 1st link then I eventually found the same links as you posted for the full installers and key so good to have a choice of installation options.

Outlook 2013 is certainly plain vanilla looking. I don't see any option to change the color so far. Anyone else?

For a person that only uses Word (2007) for non-business uses, is there really any good reason to install this? The fact that it is apparently designed to work with cloud is not something that excites me at all.

Here is what I have learned so far the color of the opening menu on the left, file tab and status bar are the same as the color of the metro tile or icon ? (using Win 8 ATM).








Excel - Green & InfoPath - Purple

The only other customization I see is changing the pattern in the upper right hand corner after opening a blank document in certain apps like Word then selecting File > options.

I think they botched it like the Windows 8 color schemes, the next versions of Windows and office should be aptly named Windows/Office botulism instead of Windows/Office Next.

I installed it last night after a few beers, I look at it this morning and it's bloody awful....I cant easily see what emails have not been read and that makes it pretty useless.

I think the colour scheme should be named "a wet day in Salford" that converts to "a wet day in Detroit" for the US, I doubt businesses will be rolling this out or sick days and staff suicides will jump considerably.

It doesn't lose email account data when being uninstalled and replaced by the previous version

Same here I've not long got the 2010 version and that has everything I need. I don't need Access or Outlook so the Student version is enough, and cheaper, and even that has Power Point which I don't need either.

I saw about the Preview this morning on Facebook but running the video preview didn't impress me so don't think I'll bother downloading.

One thing that annoys me is the Ribbon won't stay minimized. In Outlook 2010 there is a Minimize Ribbon option you can checkmark in the quick access toolbar to hide it until you want it. That option is now missing. I have outlook setup to open the next item when I delete an open email. I close the ribbon, delete the email, and bam, it open again when the next email is displayed. Outlook 2010 didn't do this. 99% of the time all I need is the quick access toolbar so the open ribbon is just wasting screen space.

I tried using Outlook 2013 as my primary Email client and every time I looked at the interface it nearly gave me a headache. I hate the look of it. I'm going to continue using Office 2007 Home and Student and Windows Live Mail 2011 as they have the aero look which is just better and I can stand to look at. I hate how everything has to be Metroified with Microsoft.

Posted this on the W8 Forums --but I can't download this even with a VALID TechNet subscription from W8 (which presumably Office v2013 is designed to run from).

I'm quite satisfied currently with Office 2010 so I haven't a clue what this version brings to the table.

Anyway enc screenshot of the TechNet download problem. (remember this is from W8 -- I haven't tried a download yet using W7).

One thing that annoys me is the Ribbon won't stay minimized.

It minimizes, just differently now. Click the Exit Full Screen Mode button in the top right corner beside the question mark. Ribbon disappears. If you want it back, go to the very top of the screen and click anywhere in the gray bar (which isn't there unless you put your mouse up there) and left-click. Ribbon appears. When you're done with the ribbon, click anywhere below it. Ribbon disappears.

And here I thought Windows 8's logo was boring. Whoever designed that spartan logo and interface for Office needs to have his marbles checked, they look so freaking bland that I cannot describe my displeasure in words.

Also, I hate Ribbon, but this isn't a problem that began with this iteration so I digress.
