So...I'm new to the forums and figured since no else threw it out there or my inablility to use the search function properly....

Unreal Tournament 3 doesn't work right out of the box with Windows 7

I have yet to try it in Vista Compatibility mode or XP so I'll be giving those a try here shortly.

Issues with 7 and UT3 I've come across are:

Menus before gameplay

Disappear, literally. Unable to make selections at all.

When game starts:
After about 10 - 15 seconds the game halts.

Ah...here we go...the reinstall of UT3 just finished....wish me luck.

My copy of UT3 works perfectly fine out of the box with no mods/compatibility or anything. All I did was insert and install and it ran without any problems.

Also just a heads up if u havent played UT3 in a while the game is practically dead. Only has about 30 total severs running and that is adding in every server from every game type.

Yeah I noticed, lol. As far as actually playing though...no luck for me...I'm assuming windows 7 doesn't like ATi right now? It could be the drivers though...I updated 2 nights ago to the latest version availble on windows update and it made my PC very unstable. I'm using cat driver 8.11 and the system runs fine unless I play UT3.

Ok... That is probably it because I use a GeForce 9800GT... So it is most likely a driver conflict with ATI and UT3.

UT3 works fine out of the box on my system (with nvidia 7900GS). It seems to be running smoother, at first I thought it was only due to the OS installation being fresh, but I have to say it's pretty smooth given the weak video card im using. Will post again with some numbers after a vista 64 and 7 64 re-installation.

Unfortunately, I was dumb enough to buy my copy off of Steam.

I have Windows 7 x64 and receive a Visual C++ Runtime Error every time I try to launch the game.
The little 'shield' icon, the one that runs the app as administrator, is on the icon for UT3...
I've turned off that setting though, for when it first crashed I thought that could've been the problem.

Either way, it doesn't make a difference. I can't get past the splash screen.

Anyone got it working on x64?

Thats pretty sad, considering that there are still many servers for ut04, 5 yr old game. I believe why ut3 has deminished is the time it has released, and the need for a good video card to run this game as wel as 04 ran.

Which by the way ut04 works great on win7, no comp mode on install or play... just "right outta the box" for me

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and it works great for me no problems. But I don't have Nvidia, Mine is a ATI 4850. I used the new catalyst drivers. No gripes complains or moans. game still caps out at 60. 150 when i remove the cap.

I do remember however that there were some problems with Fallout 3 and the ATI cards with the fact that some symbol was changed ( used a ? instead of a -). Maybe thats the case with this? Donno just a thought incase it helps

I am running 7 64bit and have nvidia 8800gt with latest beta driver.

When I launch (steam copy) I get the message:

'You are using a version of the NVIDIA display driver which has compatibility issues with unreal3.

Please update your driver to the latest version.'

When I run the game it freezes a bit on the game menus and is prone to crashing whilst in game fairly often.

What Build are you using?
Underneath the 7000 build is the vista kernal which runs SOME (not all) vista programs correctly.
These Drivers Should work nicely. Don't worry about Beta drivers yet. The ATI beta drivers werent that great either. I noticed a drop in FPS when I had them running VS the Win Vista 64 drivers on Windows 7.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes!

Oh! and when you uninstall drivers use this to clean up the DLL and uni and all those kinds of files that were left over so you dont get any cyber residue on your newly installed drivers

I'm having the exact same problem as TommyGibbs. Switching to the Vista drivers didn't change anything. Any other ideas? I'd really like to be playing this game...

Have you tried going into C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\UT3\ and settings UT3.exe to Vista or XP compatibility mode?

Still not working

Just tried it, same problem. I'm also having the issue that there isn't any sound during the FMVs. Thanks for the suggestion. Sigh, guess that might be twelve bucks I'll never see again.

I donno whats up with Nvidia then. My ATI card played it right off the bat.

Although I have noticed that in 64bits versions of playing UT3 there is no sound in the cutscenes, although if you play online with a friend it plays with lag. Weird

You might as well create a partition and install Vista on it or XP and play it that way but you can still install to the Windows 7 partition.

UT3 running fine through Steam for me on 7048, although I suck at the damn thing lol :p

Good game though! :D

I bought UT3 when it came out and was quite disappointed with it. Seemed too 'cartoony' to me, if you know what I mean! Also, I think that Call of Duty has really spoilt me now.

I will fish this game out now and give it a go on Windows 7. I'll let you know what happens.
