Yes, its normal for Steam to suspend a download when you launch game.
I really like Steam myself. I typically put a set sum in my Steam wallet for the sales and buy a bunch of stuff. Usually they last me until the next big sale.
But in all honesty, I have a backlog of games I havent played yet and still buy more at sales lol.
I had the same issue with HD space. Thats why I eventually got a large HD thats dedicated to just Steam.
They have 2 major sales a year. One in Summer and one in Winter. Then a couple minor ones.
They also have a Misweek madness and dailys all year.
