I installed windows 7 32-bit RC on my PC yesterday and all is fine, except for my connection. Whenever I try to connect to my Wireless network, it says there is 'limited or no connectivity'. All my WEP settings are correct and the diagnostic said that the IP Config was wrong.

What to do?

First Hi and welcome to sevenforums

You can start by taking a snip (use snipping tool type snipping tool in search) and uploading it. what is you network setup (cable modem, router, pc's) and what errors specifically are displayed

A snip of what?

There are currently 1 computer and an xbox connected to the network. I have a netgear wireless router and it is telling me that the connection is 'unidentified' with 'limited connectivity'.

Ok where do you get internet from your isp, right? from them you have probably a cable modem. then the netgear then pc's.

You should
1-reboot the cable modem, then router, then pcs.

2-go into the routers web page (usually 192.168.0.1) and check to see if PPPOE is chosen as the proticol (you dont want it unless you have to enter uid and pword when logging on)

lets start there

let us know the results

Where can I find my routers web page?

Im sorry. if you go into your browser and type the numbers (i think netgear is 192.168.0.1, or if not its 192.168.1.1) it will ask you for a user name (default is either admin, or administrator) and a password (its usually either admin, or password). from there you can look at the configuration of the router, and change the default user name and password to your own (much more secure).

If you are confused abt its settings Im sure netgear has a user manual on their web site.

Lets try to set up the router first. I will be lurking so dont be afraid to ask questions if you need help

None of those addresses are 'valid'. It also says 'unidentified network' so I am not sure how much it's getting from the router.

Check your cables.
Reset the router.
Check Device Manager to make sure that the drivers are installed for the network adapter.

Ok after checking the cables as usamsa sugested, could you tell us what model router so i can go to the netgear homepage and find out the valid IP?

edit for add: there is one more thing your can do. from search type cmd. in the command box type ping msn.com. and it will give you back a screen. could you upload that with the snipping tool. BTW when you click reply there is an icon shaped like a paperclip. thats the icon to attach a clip to the post

Hi Ken, friend,

I hate to contradict you, but please don't have him messing with PPPOE.
He will get in all kinds of trouble.
PPPOE is the internet protocol and I think his problem is his wireless settings.

No reason to suspect his internet connection, after installing a new OS.

Sorry mate. :D

This is useless. I got told to make a new connection and remove my old one. That did not work and now my computer is stuck. Is it best to create a new connection and, if so, could you guide me through it?

cheers

First we have to know what connection we are talking about.

So to avoid us talking about different things, please post a screenshot of your command prompt after entering the IPCONFIG/ALL command.

That will tell me a lot.

Further you have to be very specific in what you mean.

Saying your computer is stuck isn't very informative.

Helping with only text as medium isn't ideal, so it is even more important to be precise and elaborate in your descriptions.

Ok, now first post the screenshot, then we'll go from there.

Please give us first your ipconfig. Write ipconfig / all > desktop\ipconfig.txt to command prompt. It creates a text file called ipconfig.txt to your desktop. Attach this file here.
