Solved ASUS vs MSI - GTX 580

So I'm looking to build a new PC for gaming, and I've found 3 cards for the GTX 580 within my preferred price range:

I'm probably not going SLI or overclock either. What do you think?

Neither page can be displayed so they must be dynamic. Please tell us the specs or point us to the Newegg page. As for the card to get if they about the same price and the same chip then I would go with the one that has the most memory. You might also look at clock speed. If they both have the same clock speed and memory then it really doesn't matter which one you get so I would go for the cheaper one.

I don't have a GTX 580 But I do own a HD6870 Twin Frozr which looks exactly like my card and it runs great and it is most likely pre overclocked and would offer you Afterburner to TWEEK it out

Go with the Frozr won't be disapointed

This. Had one. One of my all time favourite video cards. Great quality. Will do 900+ core comfortably and quietly.


The MSI is 'louder' at higher fan speeds than the DCII.


However, each are great cards and you wouldn't go wrong with either.

Now that you posed this question do you plan on any future upgrades because that will come into play with the room department

Msi is a Twin slot so you would probally go to a twin then a three just for the sake of saving a little more space

As for breaking your board you'd have to be very careful and screw it down at every slot but it probably wouldn't damage it. Don't hold me to that though.:shock:

Go with one of the three $400-420 versions.

Needs less wattage than my GTX 460 let alone 500 series.
Backward compatible to PCI 2.0 only needs one slot to run in and takes up two slot spaces.

The cards both have a 3yr warranty, and the ASUS is about $5 cheaper than the MSI... I dont think space will be too much of a problem, so I'd probably choose the MSI (it looks cooler ). Has anyone used these cards on their own PC? Id like to know of their exeperiences and so on (any features that you liked/disliked etc.)

First off you are still talking about the wrong card the ASUS is clearly a bigger card and dimensions The MSI card is about a 1-1/2 inches smaller all the way around

Well the Msi will come with Afterburner program to overclock which is a tunning program with voltage tweeks as well

I have a MSI board and card ussually they work out the same way and probally be slightly faster then the asus pre overclocked and you can push it more

I have a MSI Nvidia GTX460 my GPU looks identical to that picture and +1 for the afterburner.
I still remember when I also had to make a decision between the ASUS and the MSI wasn't easy.
Went for the MSI as it had a gold rating compared to other 460's in the PcFormat mag when I bought it a year ago.
I still say you cant go wrong with either of those cards IMO.
