Bsod at startup - driver or Bios or Win7 reinstall?

Hello,

Please somebody help me to solve my BSOD.

I have it for a few months. I upgraded from Win XP to 7, changed the antivirus system to Comodo CIS from Avast, updated drivers and did other things (check disk, win update etc.). After changing 1 module of RAM 512 MB, some crashes disappeared, only bsod at boot time remained. I deleted existing settings at Driver Verifier, and after that (I suppose that was the reason) the crashes disappeared. I didn't have BSOD for 2/3 weeks.

Now I have them again in the last week. The bluescreen view showed almost always different messages (this week): pfn list corrupt, memory management, driver irql not less or equal, apc index mismatch. Earlier: memory management, driver veriver dma violation, special pool, bad pool header. The address of the crash is ntoskrnl.exe.

It would be good to know, that is it a driver failure (if so, which one), or BIOS update (but I couldn't find a proper new one) or a Win7 reinstall? Or could it be the Comodo Internet Security?

Thank you very much for any answer

Gerrard

It looks like you got an older version of the reports. Please generate these reports so we can make a full diagnosis: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

My first suspicion is the Comodo Internet Security - but this is just a hunch on my part. Please:
- download a copy of Microsoft Security Essentials for testing purposes
- uninstall the Comodo Internet Security
- install and update Microsoft Security Essentials
- ensure that the Windows Firewall is turned on.
- monitor for further BSOD's

Please locate any drivers dated 2009 or earlier in the list below. Then use the links below the list to get more info about the driver. Use that info to obtain and install updates for that driver.

If the above steps don't stop the BSOD's, please zip up and upload any new memory dumps with your next post - and we'll see what we can figure out from there.

The following info is just FYI, I've already addressed the issues that I saw in the above paragraphs

- Further info on BSOD error messages available at: http://www.carrona.org/bsodindx.html
- Info on how to troubleshoot BSOD's (DRAFT): http://www.carrona.org/userbsod.html

Hi Usasma,

thanks for your advice.
I compressed the new reports and attached them first.
(did not change antivirus system and drivers in case we could see a new solution by the reports).

The OS is Win7 Ult 32bit SP1 (not original :()
Hardware (main part of it) is about 8 years old.
OS was installed ~ 4 months ago.

Thank you.

Hello again!

After two weeks of normal working:
I uninstalled the firewall of Comodo - BSOD, bad pool header.
I removed totally (including antivirus) - irql not less or equal.
So it's not Comodo causing the problem, is it?
Maybe driver for soundcard, vga or network card? (these drivers are older than 2009)

I'm thinking this could be hardware, but there are other factors which may influence that (hence the additional suggestions)

Recommendations:
1. Please run these free hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics Please post back with the results

2. Please uninstall Comodo Internet Security. Only run one antivirus or one firewall at a time. Comodo has a higher incidence of problems than Avast, so try removing it first.

3. Please update the following older drivers:

Hi Usasma,

thanks for the advice.
I removed Comodo IS totally, before these 2 BSODs. Avast and Win7 firewall installed.
Memtest was done earlier and RAM is OK, found no errors.
(I used DriverFinder and by that: the keyboard, mouse and USB input device drivers are out of date.)
The cause could be Creative Soundcard or Geforce VGA if it is hardware error (?)

Is it possible that Epox-8KHAL+ is too old for Win7? This motherboard is no more supperted, I think.
Other: my sound card is SB 5.1 VX, not Audigy LS. Maybe a bad driver was installed earlier?

I have just read somewhere that P17.sys (of Creative) can cause BSOD in Win7.
Is it possible they can't stand each other?

I recall seeing issues with older Creative Sound Card drivers and Windows.
Try uninstalling the software/drivers and removing the card from your system. If the BSOD's stop, you've found the culprit.

It's possible that the older VIA drivers could be causing issues also - but you'll have to ensure that you have Win7 drivers to replace these. Without Win7 drivers there's no telling if it'll work or not.

Search to see if these files are still on your computer:
cmderd.sys Sun Mar 11 16:40:51 2012 (4F5D0DD3)
cmdguard.sys Sun Mar 11 16:42:19 2012 (4F5D0E2B)
They are from Comodo and were in at least one of the 2 memory dumps.
If they're still on your system, please let us know and we'll suggest a safe way to remove them.

Hello again,

I am working on the solution depending on the time I have.
2 Comodo files are not on PC (=did not find), maybe they were from an earlier bsod.
I removed and reinstalled the Creative driver (device manager details show some other driver files than before (?)
I updated the LAN realtek driver.
For 2 days nothing at the moment.
Next one would be sound card removal (I hope not needed:)

Sounds good to me, let's wait and see if there's any more BSOD's

As for the Comodo files - please note in the 3rd Party Drivers section that they showed up in one memory dump, but not in the other (later) memory dump. That means that they weren't involved in the last dump. That could just be coincidence, or it could be that they were removed - that's why I asked you to check for them.

Since 17th Aug nothing, then the last 3 days bsod again.
I did not modify anything.

Please provide the exact make and model of your motherboard (or the PC manufacturer if it was built by an OEM manufacturer). Also, please provide the link that you used on the manufacturer's website - I can't seem to locate it.
