VLC updated to 1.0.1

VideoLAN is pleased to announce the release of the second version of the Goldeneye branch of VLC: 1.0.1!
3 weeks after the release of 1.0.0, and with almost 14 million downloads, this minor version fixes most of the notable bugs and regressions that were present in the 1.0.0 version.
Notable fixes and improvements include:

• fix flv and mpeg2 seeking,
• fixes for wmv, wav, rtsp and ssa support,
• fixes for Qt and Mac OS X interface,
• fix an integer underflow in Real pseudo-RTSP module,
• updates of some translations,
• port of the ZVBI module to Windows for full teletext support and
• codecs updates for Windows and Mac OS X versions.

i was a loyal vlc man for many years until it broke my aero on my first windows 7 install, so i switched to kmp and that does the job (ie play any video without needing external codec packs), but it does have its quirks.

anyway, i downloaded this new vlc version - and it seems that they've fixed aero support (although they don't mention it in the release notes). so it's time to resume our long-term relationship...

yeah Ive tried KMPlayer but currently use WMP. I like to keep people informed of any updates for vlc.

yes, it plays them. but not perfectly. MPC/KMP + CoreAVC + AC3Filter offers better quality.

looks like i spoke too soon

playing a lo-res video in fullscreen looks awful unless i choose different video output modes:

1 - directx output fixes the scaling issue, but kills aero (so what if you're in fullscreen i hear you cry, well it kills aero in windowed mode too)

2 - opengl output gives good scaling, good with aero, but i lose ability to see/use osd when i move my mouse

maybe it's my drivers - anyone else notice this?

oh well, back to kmp i guess, i'll just have to get used to its quirks.

i'm reluctant to use mpc and codec packs as i have run into incompatability issues with games before.

What settings do you use for WMP? I want to play me MKVs on WMP or MPC. I currently have the following codecs installed...

CCCP codec Pack
CoreAVC pro
Ogg codecs
Haali Media Splitter

Which should I keep? get rid of??

I am new to this game so please be as detailed as possible as to what settings I need too use. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
