Wifi epson printer

Hi,I,m on the verge of getting a new printer its an epson photo printer with wifi,Now my question is does this printer have to be connected to the main desktop via a usb or will it work via the wifi.My desktop is connected to the router with an ethernet cable.I also have a laptop working from the router with wifi.both computers are running windows 7.
Can anyone please help me out here.

Hi flogit, For the initiual installation you will need to hook up the printer via usb cable then when all software is installed and the wifi configured you can then disconnect the usb cable and merrily print away

Not always. Most printers I've used do not require a USB cable for initial setup. They do require you to know the details of your network, however, especially any security codes you may use.

As a side note, I always prefer using a static IP for my network printers, regardless of home or business ones. The easiest way is to log into your router and find out the DHCP range, such as x.x.x.100 and up. In that example, I'd pick a number outside, such as x.x.x.10 for my printer. Set it on the printer, along with any additional info, and then run the driver software from a computer connected to the same router.

Flogit, the manual that will be supplied with the printer is very useful and will guide you step by step through the installation routine

I have the Epson Stylus SX610FW very highly pleased with it ,When the original IInk cartridges ran out I invested in a continuous ink system for it so no more cartridges to replace Continuous ink system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi thanks for the info,I have an epson photo PX660 now running on ciss,Been working well with the inks but the printer has come to the end of his days.Needs to be pensioned off.

Flogit , You may be lucky and still be able to use the CISS on your new printer,not sure which cartridges the new printer takes

Funny you should think about that.I did a checkup on that and what do you know it was my lucky day.The ciss I got will fit the new epson,I'm not a very lucky guy.I was down in Tenby west wales on Monday and a seagul shit on my head,Luck has changed.

Hi,I thought that it would be a good idea to give you an update.Regarding the new printer wifi went like a dream all was so simple.
very pleased with the printer much faster than the older model.
