It should be noted that Gadgets still works on Windows 8. While you may not find a way to open gadgets, opening a .gadget file will cause the said gadget to pin on your desktop.
Is this true for RTM though...
Microsoft was busy ripping out all kinds of stuff like this AFTER the last preview. We really don't know what will or won't work in the RTM
