Trying out Outlook

Am trying out the new Outlook mail and some of the problems that I can find are that I cannot get rid of that irritating bar on the right hand side, cannot find how to block senders and click on new and I see what I am answering to and what good is that? to attach it to my taskbar.

It is very simplistic too much so for my liking and I cannot say that it is an improvement as I said in another post is fixing an unbroken wheel really.:sarc:

Hey mate, New is at the very top, you can't miss it. Right next to the word, "Outlook" on the left.

The "new thing" for large companies is advertisements in email providers. You won't see the ads go away

At the top right-hand corner is a cog-wheel. Click it and select More Mail Settings. This is where you will find the option to block senders.

To attach "Outlook.com" to your taskbar, click the open Outlook.com tab as if you are going to move it, and drag it to the task bar. Make sure you have the tab selected and not the window.

Yes Dusty I know the new what I meant was I click on New and the message that I want to answer disappears - the old WLM I had my reply page on the left with the incoming message on the right so that I could refer to it as I answered it.The Outlook answer (new) is one huge screen to answer in, and as some of my mails are quite lengthy I shall have to find out how one references the incoming messages.

With the save on taskbar now I might have been a bit hasty I saved my logged in Outlook as a favourite and I suppose it will not let that be dragged down I'll just open an Outlook and favourite it and then drag it to the bar and then I suppose I will have to login every time I use it.:huh:

As for the blocked senders in WLM I had the Options in the blue corner tab where I could paste sender I wanted blocked but can see nowhere to do that in Outlook unless it is in some tools somewhere.

Plus I do not like that ruddy bar down the right hand side it's unnecessary and an eyesore in my mind.

Just to add to my last post a pic to illustrate and I have found how to block senders - just takes a bit longer thats all.

If you have a message you want to reply to, click the message and Reply appears at the top, along with other options. You can also select the dropdown box next to reply, and forward a message.

The block list should look like this, and, if I recall correctly, has never been different:

Just copy>paste the address in the box and add to list.

Nothing to do about the adds from Bing. It is stuck.

Wait, haha! Are you talking about the new Outlook.com, or a purchased outlook program? I was speaking about the all new Outlook.com....

Mate, tell me the actual name of the program and I can probably help you....

Yeah Dusty I found the article in ZDnet and signed up to Outlook.com - I did eventually find the block procedure and although it seems to take longer to do I am sure I shall get used to it and my blocks were carried over anyway (cast of millions which I was worried about redoing).

The main thing that has got me offside is that formulating a new message - it doesn't keep the incoming in view to answer to as in my pic.

Oh and sorry if I was bit short it was late, the XP install failed again for the 5th time after all day and just getting over the flu - but no real excuse I shouldn't have been so quick to be picky. I am not usually like that - my apologies.

Ah, I think I get your meaning. You prefer the message to remain on the side when you are writing a new message, yes? That way you can read it and compose a new message at the same time.

I don't recall hotmail having this feature, did it? If you want to read the message you are replying to, you should hit the 'reply' button so that it keeps the original message at the bottom of the same email you are about to send. That way you can re-read it if you need to, and so can the people you are replying to.

And that email window doesn't appear familiar, is it windows live mail that you are using?

Yep it's Windows Live Mail I just added my hotmail as an account.

Well I suppose thats the only way I can do it then I'll keep using WLM until it falls over as I do dislike getting mails back myself with the original I sent - seems such a waste when the answer is sometimes just a one liner and not least the download quota from my ISP going through the roof.

Maybe Microsoft will wake up to this for us plebs eh? Either that or find another mail service.

The new ads. Can't disable it, and it gets MS more money.

Yeah I know what you mean bassfisher trouble is I think they are turning off hotmail and that is the account I went over to so it means finding something else and letting EVERYONE know the new address is - that is a downer to put it politely

Why they just could not leave well enough alone - money again it seems the greed is beyond belief :sarc:

I doubt they are turning off hotmail, and not any time soon. You can switch back the same way you switched to outlook.com - cog-wheel (options) and select switch back.

Ok mate I went and got my ISP account sorted just to make sure - it is one of the reasons I went hotmail as it kept dropping out.

It's shame though as I must admit it is quick.

Yeah I agree too and part of me also thinks it is greed that plays some part in that, and speaking for myself I would be far more likely to use, buy and to recommend Microsoft products if they made just plain down to earth products especially the software.

I mean with the amount of Windows software alone - not counting the hardware stuff like keyboards that I personally like - the money they make is beyond our comprehension eh? :sarc:
