What old software do you still use?

I still use Encarta 98, because it has that great game in it called Mindmaze. The first time I played that game was on my Uncle's PC about 10 years ago.

Adobe Acrobat 6
Microsoft Picture-It 99 - Yes, it does work on Windows 7
Microsoft Office 2000
Probably others but that's all I can think of.

Paint Shop Pro 5.03 (1999)
Deluxe Bible Collection (2001)
Microsoft Best of Entertainment pack (Golf, Jezz Ball, Tut's Tomb, Pipe Dream, etc. - some of the games go back to 1990)

All these have worked just fine on Windows 95c, XP Home SP3, Vista SP2, and Win 7 Pro SP1 machines. Paint Shop Pro and Works 6 worked fine also on Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Damn I been doing some looking and found Microsoft Picture It and Adobe PhotoShop 6.0. I think I will give them a try.

I don't tend to install as much software these days as I used to, since much of the information is readily available online. I usually install music editing programs and the odd game or two but, apart from Office, little else.

As regards old software, I'm still using my 48+yr old brain cell. Amazingly, it still works!

Old brain cells up date them selfs. Boot time and defrag is a little slower.

My old brain cells are still crazy about Microsoft's old Photo Editor, which I've finally been able to successfully download! I now use it all the time for those functions that Microsoft saw fit to delete from Photo Editor's current cousin, Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

I am using PowerDesk which was put out by Ontrack. I've had it since Windows 98 and still have been using it on Win7. I was surprised that I could even install in on the pre-lease of Windows 8 and it still works great.
Incidently, here is one thing that I found out when installing an old program on Win8. At least in the case of this particular program, this is what I had to do. I have Windows 8 installed on a virtual machine. When I inserted the CD in the drive it couldn't recognize the installation file or all of the rest of the files. I then ejected the disk and then inserted it again to let auto play kick in. I then saw the files. I installed it but it installed on my host machine. After a few more trials and errors--mostly errors, I just copied the installation file to a folder on the guest machine and left the CE in the drive. I then installed it from the file that I put on the guest and it then installed on the guest machine and it's working very well.

I'm still using ACDSee32 v2.41, have newer version but the old one does all that I need and I prefer it to the interface of IrfanView.

I just discovered something and therefore need to amend my last post. In that post I talked about what I had to do in order to install an old application. Well--a short while ago, I found out that it does not apply only to old applications. It also applies to some newer ones. I wanted to install MS Office 2007 on my guest machine. I put the CD in the drive and attempted to install it, but it wanted to install it on my host machine. I therefore copied the installation file to a folder on my guest machine and used that file to install. It then installed on my guest machine. I've installed some other applications in the normal way and it worked as it normally would. But on that old app and with MS Office it wouldn't. Has anyone else run into this?​

I'm still using Microsnot Picture It! Photo 7.0. I was astounded to find it would work on Win7 64 bit.

With Picture-It 99 the only thing I can't do is put text on a picture. If I try, Picture-It crashes. It happens with XP as well.

So- I just don't try to put text on a picture.

I run it making it compatible to XP SP3.

It's PowerDesk 4 Pro. The main reason I use it is to search for files. I think it does a better job than using Windows for searching. It even accepts wild cards.

Thank you. I've had every version since Version One but I ended up with Version 8 on Windows 7.

I don't know if this would fall in this area(probably doesn't) but it is software but games lol oldest app i got in my pc is the old dos doom games like doom II and Quake II. Um oldest software I have I think is Microsoft office 2003 but the dos games are from 90's

Of course it counts, some of my old games date from the late 90s. That's why I have XP still installed and that's what I use it for now.
