Microsoft to Patch 'Hacker's Playground'

Microsoft said it will patch at least 14 vulnerabilities next week, including four in Internet Explorer (IE), making it three months in a row that the company has plugged holes in its browser.

Of the nine updates set for August 14, five will be labeled "critical," the most serious of the four ratings Microsoft uses. The other four will be pegged "important," the next-lower threat ranking.

The big story for next week will be the one-two punch of patches for Exchange and SQL Server.

Thanks for the heads up A Guy. It never ceases to amaze me how often Microsoft has to release security patches for its Windows OS. Gives me a real warm and fuzzy feeling to know how vulnerable it is.

On the other hand, you could get a nice warm and fuzzy feeling that they are actually addressing it eh? ;)

Don't get me wrong, I am glad they fix the problems, but on the other hand, one has to hope that nothing bad happens before they get around to patching it.

I had a LOT of negative things to say about Mircosoft lately (all about metro in Windows 8 which I think is horrible and has no place on a desktop without the choice to choose a a default) HOWEVER.....

When it comes to being proactive about security issues and not trying to hide the cold reality from users I give Microsoft an solid A +.

The reason why there are so many targets on Windows OS and IE is because they are the most used OS and browser around the world by leaps and bounds. So it figures that the criminals would target it most often.

Give credit where it is due. MS deserves a LOT of credit for being very relentless about improving security.

For the most part the only time there is trouble is when the first and best line of defense against malware FAILS. That first line of defense is the grey matter between our ears. If you are diligent about using care when using the internet it is very unlikely that you will ever encounter malware, and that is what security suites are for, that rare case of a well known website being hacked by a criminal with malware for instance, it isn't a common occurrence BUT it can happen.

I still don't understand why MS hasn't done an intensive ad campaign with OEMs to raise the visibility of USERS using care when online. It would also gain them a lot of credit that they should get but often don't receive.

I very glad that Microsoft is keep a constant watch. Their will always be bad people trying to do bad things to Windows users. The bad people are getting bored with Windows because they are hitting Apple a lot more now.
Or because Apple users have more money which is what they are usually looking for. Apple systems are more expensive, so who else is a better target audience if you're trying to scam people?
That's my 2 cents of what I believe is going on with the recent rise in Apple PC attacks.
