So I recently got into gaming on my pc by adding a new NVIDIA GeForce GT 520, the only problem is I still seem to be having performance issues with any game I play. Currently i have a AMD Atholon II x4 635 processor at 2.90 GHz, 4 gigs of ram, 500 gig hdd, running on windows 7 home premium 64 bit, Everything I have tried doesn't seem to help my performance, if you need more information let me know and i will do my best to provide it.

well the games doesn't appear to be heavy . . . So the lag can be caused ( in my opinion ) by either faulty hard disk or windows .....
open task manager and click on performance tab and look if the resources are being over used ??

what is windows graphics rating

Windows Experience Index isn't a good benchmark, don't look at it.

Lag in games is probably caused by your GT 520, which is a low-range GPU. Don't expect high fps in modern games...
Try to lower graphics and maybe set a low resolution... this will increase fps in games.

So the lag can be caused ( in my opinion ) by either faulty hard disk or windows .....

An hard disk wouldn't slow games so much, but you can try to defrag it.
also try to clean up your pc with programs like CCleaner.

And, as M1GU31 said, try to update drivers. If you already have 301.42WHQL version, downgrade it. It is currently causing a lot of issues with a lot of games... Maybe this could be the problem.

What resolution are you currently using in desktop and in games?

if hard disk has a problem it gives continuous skips / jumps in games my personal experience

Thanks for all the info, as for the resolution I've tried it on different resolutions and nothing seemed to drastically change the frame rate, for an example on path of exile on the lowest setting and lowest res my frame rate hovers between 12-15 fps and that just doesn't seem right,i will look into the driver when I get off work

I am still using an old GTX260 + a 9600GT for PhysX but I am with those that say that the bottleneck could be cause by your graphic card.

First thing I found while googling it was this... Up for review today is a low-end NVIDIA Fermi graphics card, the GeForce GT 520. The low-end graphics processor it uses, the GF119, was released back in April. The graphics card only has 48 Stream processors and uses DDR3 memory with a 64-bit bus, except the cost on this creation is just around $60 USD.

You can't expect much from it.

We never said you were complaining (at least I didn't) :p ... just showing you the reviews so you don't expect much ;)

As I said, I am still using a GTX260. Hell... I am still using a PC with DDR2 Ram! :D

The GT 520 is a VERY low end card. See this chart: GeForce GTX 550 Ti | Performance | GeForce

Not really for gaming mate, but hope you do get some fun out of it.

Admittedly, I would assume that 500's would be better than 400's, and so forth, but Nvidia doesn't do that. They release a single card and tweak it for lower and higher end graphics performance (ie the 500 series). This is a way to make more money off it, so those who pay less get less, and those who pay more get more.

i also bought the gt520 and it heats up way to fast playing games. going for at least the 550ti next time. i do have a temp solution tho. bought a small usb powered fan and put it next to the 520 to help keep it cool. my temps stay about 60-65C when its on so it helps.

Now that the 600 cards are out, consider aiming for a 670 or similar.
