apps and games lag on windows 7

older apps and games work well no lag on xp but in windows 7 it works but lags
even if i have a laptop i5 processor, ddr32gb ram, 2gb videocard

when i saw in task manager the app.exe im using it has 25% cpu usage
i have 2cores/4 threads

the app and game im running is nfs 2 se
simple trainer/tweak for my games

^this doesn't lag on xp, is there a way to fix this on win 7

i already tried that one still have spike lags

when playing large game files it lags

my laptop specs:
intel core i5-2410M @ 2.3Ghz
2gb Nvidia geforce gt 540M
2gb DDR3 @667Mhz ram
640gb @5400rpm sata II hdd

the games that i play is gta 4 (+16gb), starcraft II (+12gb), when im driving fast in gta 4 the roads loads slow and lags
is my hdd the problem, the spin up read (5400rpm) is too slow too load large game files???

i defragged my whole system, updated drivers, checked for viruses and have a cooling pad

It's my understanding (and I could be wrong on this) that games like GTA and Starcraft are very memory intensive. Even though you have a 2GB Nvidia, the system RAM is only 2GB. I believe most folks say 2GB is the minimum RAM for Windows 7 and 4GB is the recommended sweet spot (or even more if running a 64-bit OS.) The HDD @5400 rpm should be fine because it's the RAM that buffers (stores) the needed game data. If the RAM can't store enough data things come to a stop (or slow down) while more data is retrieved by the RAM from the HDD. Once the new data is buffered in the RAM the game continues until the next slow down. If you can increase your RAM to 4GB (since you say you're using Pro 32-bit) I think you might see a performance increase. RAM prices are really low now. You could use a Memory Advisor like this from Crucial to see exactly what your computer can use and then shop for the lowest prices.

Yeah, I think marsmimar is right. I run out of ram from time to time if I have a few apps open while playing SWTOR. I have 4gb of memory, so I imagine 2gb of ram is what is limiting you here.
