Change Disk 0 to Disk 1 and Vise versa

For some odd reason, my Disk 0 magically turned into a Disk 1 and vise versa. I believe at one point Windows even reported a signature collision, but when I hit connect, it went online.

Even after changing Boot device priority, the Disk 0 and Disk 1 positions do not change.

I need the most simplest, step by step instructions on how to switch them back to normal.

I checked all kinds of threads but none of them are simple and straightforward. Just a bunch of confusing talk.

This is what I did:

First, determine which physical hard drive is going to be Disk 0. This is usually the one with C:/Windows on it.
(If the 2 hard drives are identical you may need to determine this by trial and error by disconnecting one and checking)

Then, shut down the computer, disconnect all other drives except Disk 0, and then start the computer. Let Windows load and discover the drive. Check Disk Management to be sure.

Then shut down and reconnect the drive you want to be Disk 1. Restart. Check.

Do this for each of the 4 drives - one at a time. That should do it.

I actually formatted both of them and have an image stored on an external. I actually use ShadowProtect boot CD to determine which Disk is 0 or 1. It pretty much shows the same information as disk management. So, would it make sense to do what you said and instead of booting into Windows, boot to the Disk and check to see if the priority changes, or would that information only reflect via operating system?

I don't know about what Shadow Protect is doing or reading.
The method I gave will affect the OS's disk order.

Also: while SATA standards do not give any priority to the order of any hard drive on the controller, it is just good practice to connect the drive that you want to be Disk 0 to SATA port 1, Disk 2 to SATA port 2, and so on.
