Solved Windows 7 No Sound. But Mic Bars Full And No Mic Plugged In HELP!

I have tried your usual uninstall update/re install drivers. I have even gone as far as system restore but the problem still exists. So i will start from the top i went out yesterday left my p.c on and its went to standby the usual thing it should do if left running and untouched. When it awoke it just refused to play sounds full stop.

So here's the breakdown:

> Re installed Drivers ( NO LUCK)
> System Restore (NO LUCK)
> Checked Services.msc in case something wasn't running (NO LUCK)
> Tune Up Utilities Cant Find The Issue (NO LUCK)
> And P.s My Drivers Are Correct One's And Everything Is Plugged correctly And Ive tried Other Sockets. No My Volume's Are Not Turned Down Or Wrong Default's.

One thing that sticks out is the "HD Audio Device" and not a listing for your actual sound hardware. That suggests the generic Windows installed driver is being used, which is only a basic function driver and not a full feature. You should have either the PC Vendor or Motherboard Vendor, as applicable, driver as that will provide full feature and work better.

I would start with the proper driver and go from there.

Hi thanks for the reply yes i forgot to mention it is the genric driver atm. As i i have tried multiple drivers and updated ones I just took that print screen by random with the generic one but generic or official the result is still the same and so would be the print screen. Which is why im lost from there......

What is the actual audio device? RealTek? IDT?, etc.

What do you have listed in the Device Manger for Audio devices?

Hi Yeah the audio device is Asus P5GD1-VM Motherboard Audio Realtek ALC 861 High Definition Audio 8-channel CODEC

Never had issue with it until i came home yesterday as i said after standby and stopped working.. the only thing that is strange no matter what driver mic bars always full but nothing plugged in.

Do you have more than one device listed in the Device Manager? (other than possibly an HDMI audio device)?

Also, you don't have the System Mixer listed. That should be your default recording device (and you need that for recording streaming audio from the internet).

Generally, when problems develop coming out of standby its usually a driver issue.

Ni sorry for late reply trying stuff. No no other devices never has been since it always worked just HD realtek devices. And System mixer is enabled now i had it hidden but still the same outcome.

Just a little bit of update though by messing around with some drivers the one from the mobo website shows sound sometimes coming through the mixer but mostly one bar but no actual sound coming out. Whilst the mic bars are full green still.

My system shows the microphones as "not plugged in" and no level (bars) display.

I still think its a driver issue. Since the audio has worked in the past, go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the sound and then LEFT Click "Uninstall". Also check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and install the sound. Do not let Windows install the generic sound device, if possible, install the ASUS supplied RealTek driver.

Hi yes that is what is installed on the system now anyway the official driver just no sound all together. But mic level are full exactly like the first picture. But this time the driver says Realtek HD driver like it should. The only time the speakers green bars move up and down is when i press test. Other than that countless drivers even generic all result the same issue?

Do you happen to have a web cam installed? If you do disconnect it and see what happens.

Two things.

1. Run the Microsoft "fixit" and see if it finds anything Microsoft Fix it Center Online

2. A far fetched possibility but run a malware scan, with malwarebytes, and see if it shows anything.

Nothing is wrong for the Fix it as i used that already just scanning virus scanner now anyway

but whats getting me is i have the right driver. But in the picture below all of the MIC/Line in etc green bars are constantly FULL green 24/7 dont move up or down liek someone is screaming down it and dont change with or without a mic present i have no webcam either just speaker in green port how it should be.

(tried disabling them and muting them and volume down)

But on playback devices nothing will move the green bars on that and the correct one is selected the only thing that indicates it works is if i right click my playback device and do test it shows the green bars moving and making a decent sound. But actually no sound form my speakers is coming out.

My speakers work fine just tried them.

I'm starting to think there is some type of hardware issue. Nothing with software/drivers seems to make a difference.

Thats what i thought but surely cannot be a problem with onboard motherboard its not even that that old and it was just on sleep mode so its not like anything has destroyed it weird one dont you seem to agree?

Btw I made an A-Z post of drivers for motherboards and included CPU-z And intel's software update utility. Just wondering as you seem someone randomly jack the thread for drivers help its may be worth sticking to forum as obviously my power is limited

The age of a motherboard/power supply etc doesn't mean it won't fail. I've worked in computers for longer than I care to mention (I started with mainframes in 1962) and have seen many failures on new, nearly new, 1 year old, etc.

It does go into a power saving mode but not completely powered down. When it comes up the power supply potentially could zap something. Not saying that happened but the potential for that is there.

The other potential thing is a Windows caused problem and in that case its going to take a complete "clean" reinstall. This is a hassle but may be needed, unless you have a full hard drive backup of before this happened that you can restore the PC with (this is a prime example of why to make full hard drive backups).

Hahah fear not my friend everything is installed on my other hard drive just preferred the challenge i dont solve i don't learn and how do i help the community back anychance you can close this thread as its pointless now. Have rep'd you on the countless advice thanks

this audio system supports vista drivers
You may need to install a sound card that will support win7 drivers.

Vista drivers work well in Windows 7, as Win 7 audio functions are identical to Vista. XP drivers, however, are not compatibile because of the different handling of some audio functions.
