Best option for removing a keylogger virus

Hi,

I don't want to take any chances with this. Would using the clean command twice be enough, or should I go so far as to use clean all? Other options? The system in question is a netbook with windows 7 started on it.

Hi,

A single CLEAN should be sufficient, but I tend to be conservative with this and use the CLEAN ALL command. It will take longer to complete - about an hour per 320GB.

Thanks for the info Golden. I tried the clean instructions, but got an error saying "clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot," which makes sense considering the OS can't wipe itself out. So how should I go about doing this?

Hi,

Boot from the installation DVD, then access DISKPART and the CLEAN command from there.

Access the command prompt by pressing SHIFT+F10 at the Languages screen when you boot from the installation DVD, then do the following:

diskpart <enter>
list disk <enter>
select disk # <enter> (where # = the number of the disk you wish to wipe)
clean all <enter>

I never use the "clean all" command, but i always run "clean" twice before installing windows, been doing this since Vista was released

Hiyya ubersleep another one I use is the Partition Wizard and do the quick wipe (all zeros) though you need another machine to hook your drive on and I do that by using one of those USB gadgets.

That gadget is also handy for a few things with the drive.
