Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

====================================

Attach the resulting zip file to your next post.

Here is how to attach a file using SevenForums site and software. This is a safe and secure method.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/9733-screenshots-files-upload-post-seven-forums.html#post93869

============================================
============================================

Please carry out this procedure:

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec
(left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Ø Manufacturer and Model OR Custom build.
Ø ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

With Speccy, you can select with your mouse/touchpad info from the display
and paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Have you over-clocked any hardware, and made sure the hardware devices are receiving adequate cooling?

The fans, heat sinks and vents clean and unobstructed?

Download Speccy or CPUID Hardware Monitor to monitor the hardware temperatures.

Perform a stress test the CPU with: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220743-cpu-stress-test-using-intelburntest.html

Perform error-checking with the RAM with: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html

Perform a stress test for the Graphics with: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/100356-video-card-stress-test-furmark.html

Perform a error-check for the Hard-Drive with: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

Perform a Backup and System Restore beforehand!

BlueRobot,

When he includes the zip file in a new post, then I will look at same.

I never "back look".

Now, you can determine overclocking by looking at the dump file with WinDbg. Enter following WinDbg command:
!sysinfo smbios

Under this topic you find speed info:
PHP:
[Processor Information (Type 4) - Length 40 - Handle 0004h]
  Socket Designation LGA775
  Processor Type Central Processor
Processor Family bfh - Specification Reserved
  Processor Manufacturer Intel
  Processor ID 7a060100fffbebbf
  Processor Version Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
  Processor Voltage 8ch - 1.2V
  External Clock 352MHz
  Max Speed 3800MHz
  Current Speed 3169MHz

Hope this helps.

Excellent.
That would indicate that he is not overclocking.

Although not as thorough in the cpu area, I do find that SPECCY is an easy way of keeping an eye on temps.

Another program, which I did recommend in the past, is CoreTemp, however, the last time I visited their site they wanted to install some other programs and since I do not want to complicate problems, I've stopped recommending CoreTemp.

I've suggested CoreTemp and CPUID Hardware Monitor in one big post, with some stress tests and error-checks all from the forums. I will remove CoreTemp and replace it with Speccy.

EDIT: I've updated it with Speccy, and the post was #6.

BlueRobot,

Excellent.

Although this list is not all-inclusive and will not pass close scrutiny, this is a list I generated at one time as I was trying to figure up from down with WinDbg.

I'm posting the list as an attachment.

The one command that is just marvelous is
.HH
which gets you WinDbg help

My CPU and GPU is running at 40-45 degrees celcius with sufficient cooling, though it might need some dust blowing.

The BSOD was a one time event when I was watching a stream on Twitch tv and playing D3 at the same time.
So maybe the cpu was overloaded or something?

Thanks for all your help, Robot and Karl! Sorry if I did any back posting, new to this forum. :)

The temperatures seem fine, when did you look at the temperatures? Was any programs running when you were monitoring the temperatures?

D3 is Diablo III right?

Yep D3 is Diablo 3.
I looked at the temperatures when I was playing Diablo 3 as well as running Chrome and Winamp on the background.

Was the BSOD a one off freak accident? Because it doesn't seem to happen after that.

What say you to waiting until you have a couple more so that we have more .dmp files to work with?

No problem, and maybe it was just a random BSOD, I have got a random BSOD quite a while ago, and have no problems since then.

Hope you don't get any more BSODs.
