Hi abraham2nd,

Just curious. Where did you get Windows 7 Ultimate X64 from? If it is not genuine and downloaded from a surreptitious site, it could already have been loaded with bucketful of malware. :)

Maybe if after testing if safe with an AVG, you could right click and Unblock the exe file & try again!

What's about your UAC setting?

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I found a little .reg script to restore the .exe to default in windows 7.

Just download the .zip and unzip it.
Double click on the extracted .reg file and if a prompt command, accept.

Merge the .reg file and reboot. Try again open your .exe.

Hi abraham2nd,

Your only option, IMO, to get rid of this problem is to buy genuine Windows 7 Home Basic (:)) or Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a valid/legit licence and do a clean install. (You may also clean install the edition that came preinstalled and indicated on the COA sticker on your Inspiron using that COA-SLP key to activate.)

And that only after sanitising the HDD thoroughly with programs like DBAN Darik's Boot And Nuke | Hard Drive Disk Wipe and Data Clearing for I believe that your hard drive is infected. ( You know why I smiled.)

Abraham,
Follow the recommendation from GregRocker.

Be sure and use the Clean step using DiskPart which he discusses

This procedure from Greg covers all cases and all problems.

Nothing more or less is needed.

Does it really cover an illegal Windows 7 download that carries a bucketful of malware that takes over the HDD on installation? :)

It says quite clearly in the tutorial to use only the licensed version for reinstall. Anything else is not supported here and illegal.

That is it. Nothing is going to help the OP if his Windows 7 installation is not legit.

The OP is yet to answer the query raised in my first post - the source.

Well if legit.
I had to on some files If the name was lets say SetUp and not SetUp.exe I had to Rename it SetUp.exe(and click on SetUp.exe, you will see what i mean by that.)
You may also have to right click and click on Run As Administrator.
Also there are registry values to change from default or something to %1, I did it a while ago so just trying to remember but clicking %1 seems to be the same as Run As Administrator and the extension fix may change the registry values already, you also may have Check for Compatability also, this will run them as would XP or windows Me or others.

Some just won't run but Run As Admin does the trick usually, but not all will run!!
