I contacted HP support which charged me $65 to tell me to purchase a $140 Hard Drive and $20 recovery disks. I have installed the hard drive and used the recovery disks now i get stuck at Starting Windows screen. I have no clue what to do. I have let it sit for 1.5 hours just to see if it would eventually start and nothing.

The issue started with mouse touchpad stopped working and the light on the side of the laptop turned from white to a pinkish color. It is a HP Pavilion DV6 that this happened to with windows 7 64 bit.

Have you made sure all your hardware is properly seated and connected to your motherboard? How recently have purchased the hard-drive, it may still be under warranty or still valid for a refund.

Reboot and tap the HP F10 key to enter BIOS setup, make sure the HD is detected under HD's or Storage listings (if not reinstall it or change the cables).

Then look for SATA controller to set it to AHCI to try install. BIOS Setup Utility Information and Menu Options - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

If the disks still won't load then try using the installer in Step 1 of Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which will give you a much better install than the Recovery disks containing all of the corrupting HP bloatware and duplicate utilties which have better versions built into Win7.

It finally got past Starting Windows to only tell me that recovery failed and i can try again. I have tried 5 times now and get the same result. I would try a clean reinstall, but really cant afford $200 for Windows 7 software right now. In BIOS I cant find anywhere to change SATA.

The pink light on the side of the machine is the HD light. I am almost about to sell it for spare parts to a computer repair shop.

Oh and i just purchased the HD. 4 days ago, don't see how the hard drive is the problem unless HP sent me a brand new lemon.

Why would you need to pay $200 for Win7 if it came on your PC? Just reinstall using the installer provided in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7
following the steps closely to get a perfect reinstall.

To get the cleanest slate for reinstall wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command accessing Command Line by pressing Shift + F10 after booted into the installer.

Please read the tutorials closely and ask back any questions as you had this information almost a day ago and could already be reinstalling had you payed attention and read the links.

How do I get to this if I can't even get into windows?

I did the clean install and when it restarted the first time, it went to starting windows screen for 1 hour then said that windows failed to load. Was talking to a friend and he thinks it may be a motherboard problem. I have no clue guess the only way to find out is to buy a motherboard.

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself?

Try burning another using the ISO and tool to burn to DVD or write to flash stick in Clean Reinstall tutorial.

If problems persist try wiping the HD using Diskpart Clean Command
from installer Command Line accessing DISKPART At PC Startup.

Boot into BIOS setup to reset the defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

These operations will indicate whether mobo is at fault. We dont' just guess here - we prove things.
