Hey!

I'm sure you know the error I'm going to post so I'm going to give you the details.

It's my GPU that is an Asus ENGTX580 with the latest drivers (installed today after getting this error with the 296.10 drivers, which were old). The latest ones are 306.23 and I went to try the drivers and I got a bluescreen after just 10-15 minutes. I didn't install any new drivers since 296.10 because they gave me bluescreens. But it was a while ago I tried so I thought I'd try the new ones to see if they work. And they don't. I still get the drivers stopped responding message, and now I get bluescreens on top of that.

Stats of my PC:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
ASUS P6T WS Professional Motherboard
Intel i7 920 @ 2.67GHz
4Gb RAM (Apparently my motherboard broke last week and I lost 2Gb. I've tried switching all the sticks and my third spot seems to be broken. Just know that the problems I have now have always been here)
Regular harddrives. Seagate 1TB x 2
F-Secure
It is well cooled. The case has a lot of fans.

If I've missed something please do tell me!

Poke! Hey! I think I've supplied all the details and I hope somebody here could help me find the problem and come up with a solution. Because I'm on the edge of buying a new motherboard next pay check so I need to know if that's necessary.

Thanks in advance! :)

With the memory slot problem I would get a new board, but that may not fix the driver issues. Let's see how the fixes Arc recommends goes.

Okey I'll try this as soon as I have time. I'm currently studying and I need it running atm to do some stuff. But when I'm finished I'll try to do that.

And about the memory slots; I'll absolutely buy a new one. But I'm thinking that if there's a problem with my GPU I want to RMA it to get a functional one. I've always had this issue with Battlefield 3, but no other game. So I don't know if it's just my motherboard who has a collection of issues or if it's something else.

Anyway, I'll get to it in a few hours! Thanks!

So, I'm back. I never tested that stuff but what I did was to order a new motherboard with a new set of DDR3's, so I now have 12gb of RAM and a new, fresh motherboard. It all worked fine in Battlefield 3 (after installing the latest drivers for my GPU) for a steady hour or two, I stopped playing and I started chatting and installing software (fresh windows installation, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) and stuff. I started a new game and I got the message after just 2 minutes.

"The display drivers stopped working and has been restored"

Where can I locate the log file for this error, if it's possible? Or does this program I used in my previous post do that for me?

Well a bad board may make a GPU seem bad. Try this to test it and keep an eye on your temps.

It did that the second I tried to start a test. Trying again now, but if this happens again I'll wait for a reply.

After a little debugging I figured out that I couldn't run the program with the logging on, because it crashed if I did. So without the logging I could see that the temperature got steady at 80 degrees after a few minutes and I see no artifacts. The only thing though is that I feel nauseaus (spelling?) when looking at that thing.... my god.

Anyway, suggestions?

Hello, guys? I'm in desperate need of help here!

I also noticed, while changning motherboard, that the CPU had two dark spots on two of the pins. Does this have any significance?

Okey, I didn't know I was supposed to fill it in there. I posted it in my first post.

Filling it in now.

EDIT: This is going to take a while seeing as my mobile broadband connection here is awful (I have no access to any other internet from this place) so the .NET framework I have to download for the systemspecs thing is downloading too slow.

The specs are there now.

The problem with my PC is still the disply drivers crashing and getting restored while playing Battlefield 3. I have throughout this year swapped everything except my GPU and CPU. The problem persists.

Try these steps to install only the graphics driver.

1.Download the preferred driver and save it to the desktop.
2.Double click the installer and you will see a screen where it will be extracted to, change that to your desktop.
3.Open Device Manager through Control Panel.
4.Expand Display adapters and right click the name for yours and choose Update Driver\Browse my Computer. Select the driver folder you just saved on the desktop. Click Next.
5. Your system should say "Windows has successfully updated your driver software".

If you get a window saying you already have the most current driver, go back to step 4 and choose Uninstall Driver software instead. Then restart from step 3.

I tried this step and the problem persists.

I also never install the 3D-drivers, so when I install drivers normally I go and uncheck the 3D-drivers and stuff. If it has any significance

You can try using Driver Sweeper (link in my sig) to remove the driver, again, and reinstall as above and test. Also you could try using an older WHQL driver too, the one I am using is 295.73.

The dark spots on the CPU may indicate it has been overheated at some point. This could be caused by a number of things, Board, CPU, bent pins, poor power supply. What PSU do you have?

I have no faith in installing drivers. I've done this in a million different ways for a year soon. So I'm going to ship my GPU away within the week.

I've had the CPU since 2009 I think and I used the original CPU fan at first until I noticed that it could go up to 100 degrees at some points. I now have a NEW CPU fan. There is no overheating problem. So either it's something from that time (because I just have moved my CPU other than those two times I tried to RMA my motherboard) and either it's from then or it could be my PSU.

A poor PSU as in it's broken and gives off too much? It's a 850W something. I don't know what brand it is. But it was a good one. The recommended one by the store owner. And the store owner is a friend so he wouldn't recommend me shit. I changed it from a 650W due to my GPU eating too much power, and we thought 850 was enough. At least it was at the time because it stopped killing my harddrives.

I lost 3 harddrives due to the PSU not being adequate.

Too much information I assume, so I'll just say that I have a good brand 850W PSU. I could look up what it's called but I'd have to make phone calls home etc.

100C CPU temp is very high, it could be damaged and is showing up just now.

A poor PSU may not supply the rated power, deliver "dirty" power, not have active power factor correction, have more than one 12v rail, etc. Do you have this computer with you? You can get the make and model by removing the side panel.
