Solved accidentally converted a .xlsx file into .exe format, how can i undo?

Hello all, first time I`ve ever posted on a forum looking for help, also the first time I`ve not been able to work out a problem with Google .
Very stupidly, and possibly the first time it`s ever been done but;

I went into the properties of a xlsx file (because it wouldn`t open and afterwards realised I hadn`t installed excel with my fresh word 2010 install). Now this file is in .exe format and I can`t for the life of me work out how to change it back.
-The method I used to change it to .exe isn`t available whilst it`s a .exe file.
-I don`t have a back up of the original and no restore point to work with.
-I now have excel installed.

Anyone have a idea if it`s possible to convert back to .xlsx or anyway of retrieving the info in the file?

This one really has me stumped so appreciate some help.

Hello 74ninja and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if this works:

1. Make sure that you have file extensions showing (they're usually hidden by default)

2. Right-click the file > click rename > erase the .exe > type .xlsx (important to erase the dot as well as exe, then type in the dot and xlsx)

Or, from an elevated command prompt:

Type in: move yourfile.exe yourfile.xlsx (Unless the file already exists you should receive an [ok] message indicating that the file has been renamed.)

Damn marsmimar, you almost made me use profanity it was so easy haha. The file extension was hidden and renaming it was as simple as - typing .xlsx.
