Solved How to create partition for win7 Home basic 64 bit??

Hello,
I just got a new LENOVO ULTRABOOK U410, win7 homebasic 64bit.
500 GB + 24 GB SSD;
It consist of 2 drives,
C drive- Os installed
D drive- drivers and applications installed

Now, i want to make partition of C or D drive but i dont have optical drive,so that to create a recovery disk. Didn't tried for any of the shrink methods to create dynamic drive as its a new 1 and i dont want to mess with it.
So, is there any solution to make recovery first(soft copy) and then create partitions on any drive.. Thnk u.

Hello vishUltra, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please post back with a screenshot showing the full layout of your Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) window first. This way we will be able to give you proper advice.

Actually , i hav not done yet.. coz I have to first make the recovery disk of the windows and drivers installed C & D resp. Now i dont hav disk drive..!!! So how to first create my back up for this ??

And after that i m thinkin to carry out the process to shrink the drives!!

Creating a Recovery Repair diskette​

1. Start your computer and operating system.
2. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer to display the directory structure of your hard drive.
3. Open the C:\IBMTOOLS folder.
4. Double-click RRDISK.BAT and follow the instructions on the screen.

Please post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Management drive map and listings:

1. Type Disk Management in Start Search box.
2. Open Disk Mgmt. window and maximize it.
3. Type Snipping Tool in Start Search box.
4. Open Snipping Tool, choose Rectangular Snip, draw a box around full map and all listings.
5, Save Snip, attach using paper clip in Reply Box.

Tell us what is on each partition and exactly what you want to do and we will tell you how to do it.

You do not want Dynamic drive so do not accept if it warns you it is about to convert to Dynamic Disk.

Lenovo laptops come with 4 primary partitions.
I think if you shrink one, you will find yourself suddenly forced into an extended partition the next time you do anything with partitions. Any change in partition tables will likely ruin the usability of the one touch restore to original button. Then you will need to locate and download a rather large engineering dvd just to repair that button and reload the OEM partition to restore its usability. It may look like its empty, but surely isnt. It contains your restore to original image and drivers.

I m attaching my memory management file .. SO there u can see on right side that only available shrink volume to me is 210Gb . But i want that i should be able to partition the C drive wid C only 30 or 40 GB and other drives partioned with remaining space. ??
In short i want to keep my C drive having 30/40 Gb and more space for others.
Plz help.. thnks

You should be able to use OPTION TWO in the tutorial below to shrink C by what you want to create a logical partition with.

But, This means i will b using 3rd party app to partition my disk??
Is it safe?? To do so..?? and if any prob occurs , will the service center void my warranty coz i have used 3rd party app??

Brink.. The 2 method u told above linked me for downloading a iso file . But when i browse this file to Ms Utility tool for creating bootable Cd, It says the file is invalid.. !!!..

The .iso may have gotten corrupted while you were downloading it. Did you download the .iso for "Home" under Free Download Bootable CD Now! towards the bottom.

Ya.. I downloaded that file only ..But the windows utility tool for creating bootable disk isnot detecting the file.. It says its invalid.!!
The file comes as rar file.
I was directly browsing it.!!

I think you may be downloading the wrong thing. When I clck on the Local Download link to the far right of that red arrow in that screenshot I posted above, it downloads a pwhe7.iso file and not a .rar file for me.

What do you get when you click on the link below for this?

Ya i get pwhe7.iso but its showing icon of rar file.. i m nt extracting it or anything i m just inserting it into that MS tool.. but it shows no valid image..Msg..

I just finished resizeing second partition to allow larger C. Partition Wizard worked beautifully BUT I had to go to Windows menu - all programs - default programs - set default program - and then set image burner as the default.
After that a right click on the ISO file and the proper choice was there.

As a side note did clean install to go from 32 to 64 bit. There are a LOT of updates

Ah, sounds like you just have some ZIP program set to open ISO files.

See if using the free program ImgBurn to create the CD/DVD with the .iso file instead may work. Be sure to only use 4X or less burn speed though.

If it still does not work, then redownload the .iso file from Internet Explorer and not using any download manager type program incase the first one got corrupted somehow.

YA i used internetdownloadmanager for downloading.. And i have a burner software for this, but while browsing a file to a utility tool it should not say that its invalid file. After all setting it to rar/burner software will not change file type.!!!

Try downloading the .iso without using internetdownloadmanager.

Just now i downloaded the iso by disabling idm, but again that tool says invalid file error.!! .. plz help

Also i downloaded another software called rufus (V- 2.1.0) for creating bootable usbflash drive. It shows here also that failed to scan Iso ??
