Hi
I have a pc that has these specs p.s. i know that my pc is old being that it still uses agp
AMD Athlon XP 3200+
1.5 ram
80 gb hdd
asus dvd drive
ATI radeon 4650 hd agp directx 10.1

For some strange reason my windows 7 is just way too slow, sometimes it acts wierd and sometimes just doesnt work. so why is this the case?
would you recomend just do a fresh brandnew install of windows 7?
or is it that i changed so much in my pc that it wont work.
this is what it used to be Product Specifications Compaq Presario SR1214NX Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
because it came straight from the store.
and also im trying to play turok on it

What is the "sometimes it acts wierd" more specifically.
I wonder about your RAM. According to the specs link you gave your MOBO can only handle up to 1GB which is the minimum to run windows 7.
And it is usual for windows to slow down after time. I use 8GB RAM and a i5 processor but still I notice some slowdown to when I first got it, which is only a few months ago. Try clearing out all your temporary files etc. CCleaner is good for this.
You might want to clean out the dust accumulation inside and around the CPU, if you haven't done this recently.

Have you checked the temps? .... You can use SPECCY to check the system.

You have to have a motherboard capable of using 2 gigs but it seems you don't.
I think that you need to get a new computer.

Ok sure I would like to buy a new pc but I bought all this stuff, and if I add an extra .5 of ram will it still work and work better? Or can I change my motherboard?

Oh and why can't my motherboard handle an extra ram?

Oh and why can't my motherboard handle an extra ram?

Because that is the limitation of your motherboard.
The specs link you posted gives this information

Memory
ComponentAttributesRam (installed) 512 MB (1X512MB)Maximum allowed1 GB (2 x 512MB)Speed supportedPC2700 MB/secType184 pin, DDR1-333 SDRAM DIMM slotsTwoOpen slotsOne available

As you can see it says Maximum allowed 1 GB.
It is an old board.
If you get a new motherboard it will be expensive and you will have to buy RAM and install everything yourself so all in all if you want speed you have to get a new computer to handle the latest technology.

Oh it's because of the mother board requirements thanks i got it, so then a new pc? Ok then I will look for one, and to replace the motherboard how much will it approximately cost according to the thing I have?

Well that's a question and a half!
It is not just a case of replacing the motherboard.
If you buy a new motherboard, then you have to find a CPU to
go in it. Probably you can't use your exisitng CPU as it is too old.
Then you will have to fit in in the case, which could be a problem,
reinstall the O/S + any drivers you need for the MOBO...connect everything up correctly ....well the list goes on.

So it is not just the price of the MOBO it is whether you have the technical skill to replace what you have already.
Maybe you do. I don't know.
But to me, you have the choice of cleaning up your old computer, getting the disk defragged, if you haven't done it yet, get rid of anything you don't need that could slow it down, and stick with a slow but probably usable computer for mundane tasks like email/ net surfing etc.
OR
Go to your local computer store and pick out a new computer that suits your needs.
How about waiting for windows 8..coming your way soon.....
