I have read lots of threads by people with the same problems, and sadly I need the same sort of fix. I have run the fix-it tool and the System Readiness fix to no avail. Examining the files listed in the checksur.log reveals they are empty, with binary zeros.

I have attached my checksur.log file for your viewing pleasure.

Many thanks in advance for any help rendered.

Peter

You have some major errors in the CheckSUR log.... I have a feeling I know what the root of the problem is, and an MGADiag report will confirm it...

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.
- **in your own thread**, please
Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Most report they are started, except for Windows Backup, and that is set to Manual.

System was built by myself, and has a full retail edition of Windows 7 Ultimate. Just for a bit more background, I moved from the UK to the US, this PC was shutdown on May 28th, and shipped to the US, finally arrived here on Oct 5th. When I shut it down, it was working fine, when I started it back up here, got this update error.

Hmmm - what I was expecting to see isn't there.
Many the errors in your report are for localised far-east language files (I was expecting to see that perhaps Vistalizator had been installed, despite Ultimate not needing it)
There are
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 14
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 24
CBS Catalog Corrupt Total count: 24
This shouldn't be too difficult to fix, with luck and a following wind - and a version of Ultimate handy :)

I'll ping our resident expert and see if he can help out - I don't have an Ultimate to hand - and certainly not with far-east languages installed!

Me... expert!? I wish :p This was a right pain to source as the Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256 (the version you're missing files from) doesn't have a full installer, but I've got them now.

Reckon there's enough of us to make it worthwhile? Most of the colours are already taken :( Take your pick:

The main ones I've seen that are still free are burgundy (might be too similar to admin), dark green, brown and black.

Mucho thanks for this, it resolved all the errors in the checksur.log! I was able to run windows update and it detected a new version of windows update and said that it was going to close and restart, but it did not restart on its own. I had to leave for work at that point so will see what is next when I get home. But at least it didn't give me that blasted 800B0100 error.

I still can't understand how this happened. These files have a date of 6/2/2012, so that means they were downloaded as soon as I turned my PC on here, so how on earth did they get corrupted like that?

Also, I wonder why none of the fix programs just simply go out and retrieve new copies of these corrupted files instead of just putting in the log "repair files unavailable"?

I need to remove those additional languages, as I don't need them anymore. Only had them so I could run localized versions of some MMO's.

Once again, many many thanks for this, will let you know if anything else goes wrong. I also have another PC that I moved as well, but haven't set it up as yet, so wonder if it will have the same issue. Was there something odd about this update to Windows Update that could have caused it by the machines being offline for so long?

Hi Peter,

No worries, I'm glad that the problem has been resolved - well, most of it anyway. Let me know how the restart goes.

I'm not sure what caused this corruption, but it could be a sign of a faulty hard disk. It might be worth running a chkdsk command:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html

I guess it isn't a large enough problem for MS to spend the resources developing something like that, and I'd have nothing to do! :p

Your other PC should be fine, problems like these aren't specific to certain updates. They can happen at any time and to any file. There are far too many 800B0100 (and 800B090) errors out there for it to be coincidence though, there has to be something wrong in the updating process. As I said, there shouldn't be any errors, but you know where to find me and Noel if there are :)

Tom

Each update for Windows 7 SP1 currently (probably) contains at least 4 versions of each file, to be able to cope with variations in the OS.
To create a universal fixit would take a 12GB download :)

You can uninstall all excess laguages from the Installed Updates interface.

Hi Noel and Tom,

Well, no joy still. Now I am unable to start the Windows Update Service, I get an error 193:0xc1, the event log states that Windows Update is not a valid win32 application.

How much worse can a simple installation of the windows update agent be?

Looking at the Windows update log, it looks like part of the update failed after I was finally able to clear up the errors in the checksur.log.

This is what happened after running windows update after loading the files you gave me and running the SUR tool.

That seems to have hosed windows update and I cannot start it anymore. I did run the sfc /scannow and it found a bunch of files that it said failed to hash. Oddly enough it seems to be all the files that were part of the original problem.

for example, there are more.

Also, I can no longer run the SUR program, it fails with a server execution failure.
Windows update could not be installed because of error 2148007941 "Server execution failed" (Command line: ""C:\Windows\SysWOW64\wusa.exe" "D:\User Documents\Peter Voveris\Downloads\Windows6.1-KB947821-v24-x64.msu" ")

My goodness, I hope I haven't scared you both off with my current situation?

I had an idea that may work to resolve these issues. It seems to be related to the update programs and the languages I have installed, I have a laptop with Ultimate x64 as well, could I install the other languages on it, then copy all the necessary windows update files from the laptop to the pc, or will that cause more problems?

Cheers,
Peter

It's been 'one of those days' today!

How many languages do your have installed on this machine?/
I do know that it does tend to complain if there's more than (I think) 10 MUI languages installed - how many do you have?
