Random BSODs on fresh install of 7 Prof

Well like the title says I have a HP desktop that was randomly bluescreening and the original owner thought maybe putting on a new copy 7 over his vista might help. However randomly we get BSODs and there is minimal software or updates on this machine. Ive enclosed the zip file from the seven forums utility and hoping maybe you guys can point me in the right direction. So far the only thing ive done is ran Memtest for about an hour using UBCD4Win but there was no errors. The owner did say that he noticed the fans were acting a bit strange prior to this happening..idk if it was overheated maybe.

Hello and welcome!. Please post your system specs in the User CP (top of the page). Knowing what hardware you've got can go a long way to diagnosing problems. Did you do a fresh install of Win 7 or an upgrade to Vista?
The usual rules apply, make sure your drivers/BIOS/Windows update is up to date. From a hardware standpoint make sure the inside of the case is free of dust bunnies and that the cooling fans function. You could re-seat the RAM while you're in there as well.

Updated the info..Currently updating everything from scratch so might be here a while. Ive been running it this whole time with the case open just in case it was a over heating issue but its been bsod with it open. I do have to blow out the heat sinks thou. The CPU fan appears to be spinning and working properly.

ok good stuff. get any dust out of any crevice you can (vacuum cleaner). airflow is good, keeps heat down. If the case is open, you might want to blow a fan on it until you clean up.

So I brought this thing to my work and pulled the heat sinks and blew them out along with the entire case. On my work pc the ram seems to be compatible with this HP..I slapped the 2 sticks out of my pc into the hp and it booted up fine. I took the suspect ram and put it in my desktop here and it wont even boot up with both sticks in. If I take out one of the two it will boot up but not both. I am also running windows 7 on my work computer.

OK, so you put different RAM in your personal PC and it booted fine. Your RAM in another computer failed to boot. Sounds like you've got at least one bad stick of RAM. What kind of RAM do you have? What size are they (yours, not works).

1GB Hynix brand PC2-6400U-666-12
2GB same

Seems like an off brand so I wouldnt be surprised if it was ram..:huh:

Mixing sizes can be a problem sometimes, depends on the motherboard. You could try putting 1 stick in at a time and trying to boot to isolate which is the bad one. I'd be inclined to get new ones in any event since if one is bad the other might not be far behind

Yeah I was planning on maxing it out with a pair..gonna let it run for a few hours and update and see if it bsods again. Hopefully this is it ..diagnosing ram can be a pain..
